Back then it wasn’t as open minded , if it was and he wasn’t scared of his dad reaction then he won’t have had you with your mum. For you to know he’s only been with men since I’m guessing he didn’t just run away and abandon you?

Wow, that must of been hard , and your granny must of felt bad for you finding out that way, Mabye it would be nice for them to know that’s why you haven’t asked , like say you don’t need to know if it brings back too many bad memories but if they want to tell you about him you’ll be happy to listen

That's a terrible thing to do to a old lady and then you fine out, its her mother!!! Plus, she never had any intention of paying her back!! Hopefully she is in therapy or was. That doesn't seem "normal" to me. I mean, how much do you have to dislike your mom to do that? Also, never to see them again? Yep, therapy time for grandma too.

So happy you two have found out about each other.

I knew a couple who did this because of financial issues. If they stayed married while her husband went into care, the carehome would take as much money as they can to cover his care leaving her with very little. If divorced they can't touch her money but can only use his pension and any other supplecments he has. She still visits and takes him places.
My great aunt and her husband divorced before he went into dementia care so that the state wouldn't take everything from her to fund his care. Before they filed for the divorce he transferred all his assets to her so that she would be financially stable before and after he passed. His children were furious because they assumed my aunt had done the transferring and somehow stolen their inheritance. They soon got a letter from his attorney explaining that he had left them each $1000 and the rest he had given her since she was always there for him and he felt to them he was only a source of money and they only cared about getting their hands on his money never having even tried to be part of his life. He explained in the letter that he had divorced their mother so many years before because she only wanted his money and had admitted marrying him solely for that reason. Turns out it was his ex ( their mother) who turned them against him and had gotten them to hit him up for money whenever she was broke. He knew they didnt need his money being all very comfortable financially themselves. Their mom wanted the money and had put them up to harassing my aunt and the attorney after he passed away. The twist here: the letter also stated that if any of them tried to get a dime after he passed that the $1000 each would revert to my aunt. I was with my aunt at the reading of his will and the subsequent letter to his ungrateful offspring. They were again furious as they also lost the $1000 each. Before they left the office they were in for one more surprise. My aunt gave me the $5000 that they didnt get. Five instant enemies, people i had never seen or met. But since none of them knew my name, or anything else about me except that I was "her" niece and although they tried to find out more about me there are no common last names between my aunt and myself and she never had children their efforts amounted to nothing. They had no idea how to find me. They even tried to sue the attorney for information and failed. All the attorney knew about me was the name my aunt always called me. She called me Andre'. . My actual first name is George. Yes. Im a girl named George. But thats a story for another day. .
Oh that's terrible...
I would be taking to your fiancee and telling him what is going on

It used to be socially acceptable (and sometimes expected) for a mans brother to marry his widow. There is actually a reference to that practice in the Christian bible. I had a great aunt who married three brothers in a row. The first one died at the beginning of WWI. The second, younger, brother died in the war not long after she married him. The third brother/husband survived the war, and lived to his 90's. It did not seem to be a happy marriage. She told me once that the mean ones always live the longest, and he was really mean, so he would probably live forever. I felt really bad for her. She was always very sweet.
