It’s easy to lose your good mood these days. But it’s important to be able to focus on positive things and stories to keep smiling! That’s why we put together stories for you that show that there is a place for good in every situation.

  • At the checkout, an old lady gave me some change while I was searching coins in my bag. I paid, found my coins and, feeling terribly embarrassed because I am young and earn well, tried to give them back to the lady. But she didn’t take it, just said, “Oh, come on, you have to do good.” I feel as if I am involved in the boomerang of goodness, and it seems that soon it will be my turn. © Overheard / Ideer
  • I met a guy online, and we decided to meet in person. He came to the date without flowers, but with a big backpack. We walked around the city for more than 3 hours. Eventually he walked me home, kissed me on the cheek. Then he took out a bag full of books about Oz from his backpack and said, “I have a present for you, I hope you’ll like it.”
It turns out that I had once mentioned that I’d always wanted to read the whole series, but I’d never got round to going to a bookshop. And he remembered that and spent so much time carrying 14 books around behind his back. Yes, it was love at first sight! © Ward 6 / VK
  • I was in maybe 4th grade, and my parents just had my younger sister, so newborn focused. I went to my school lunch, opened my paper bag and unwrapped the foil holding my sandwich. There was nothing inside. It was actually just 2 slices of dry white slice bread, and I was sad.
Literally, my table mates all chipped in various components and made me the most amazing ham and cheese sandwich I’ve ever had. I’ve been chasing that dragon of a ham sandwich since, but I’m sure it was the response and not the ingredients that I loved. © I_Am_The_Grapevine / Reddit
  • I have very bad eyesight. So, I wore square, thick glasses. A year into the relationship, my boyfriend said, “Nadine, those glasses don’t suit you. Don’t you want to change them?” What could I want if my parents had no money? I just said I’d never thought about it.
A week later, he took me to the optician’s, and they helped me choose lenses there. After that, he bought solution for them and paid for new ones every 3 months. He was doing it just to make me feel more confident. It’s been 16 years now, and his care for me has not faded to this day. © Mamdarinka / VK
  • I work as a contact center operator in a sushi delivery service. I have had all sorts of things in my work: positive feedback about the company, rude customers, pranks from schoolchildren, and insults.
One day I took a call and heard several young voices shouting excitedly into the phone, “Hello, we’re from school #3, and we want to sing you a song!” I expected to hear another nasty joke, but they just started singing! Singing about smiling, good mood, and just something happy.
It was clear from their voices that they were singing with sincerity and joy! At that moment, I had already worked 6 days in a row without a day off and felt exhausted, but after that call I believed in people again! © Ward 6 / VK
  • My older sister used to tell everyone as a child that she would only marry the guy who had a full collection of hippos from Kinder Surprise. 20 years have passed since that time, the childhood promise, of course, has already lost its relevance.
Recently her childhood friend proposed to her, who had long been in love with her, but couldn’t confess this. He gave her the ring in a box, saying, “I spent all my conscious life on this, I even had to go abroad in search of some of them. Marry me!” In the box along with the ring were all the hippos from that very collection. The sister fulfilled her promise. © Ward No. 6 / VK
  • I wasn’t home, and we were having friends over. I told my husband to buy food or order delivery, because I would be late from work. So, I’m riding home in the taxi, and get a message from one of the guests, saying, “I’m blown away by your husband. How come you never bragged about him?”
I didn’t understand what she was talking about, because she had known my husband for a long time, we often hang out as couples, she knew everything about him. When I got home, I thought I’d ask my friend what she meant. But I saw a gorgeously set table, so the first thing I did was asking my husband what delivery it was.
My husband smiled wryly and said he did it all himself, and my friends nodded their heads and said it was true, they had seen him cook. I was more shocked than I had ever been before. We’ve been together for 5 years, and I only now found out that my significant other was a great cook. He has long hid his talents, but now he will be the main cook in our family© Ward 6 / VK
  • My boss is strict, she never smiles. And here I went to work and at the bus stop found a kitten. I couldn’t leave it, so I put it under the jacket and brought it to work.
The boss saw the kitten, which I tried to hide in a box. And she literally transformed in a second: a smile to the ears, and in the eyes so much tenderness which I never expected to see. She took the kitty in her arms, poured it some cream, which she adds to her coffee.
And after that, asking if he was mine, she said that she would adopt the baby. Then immediately she ordered a bag of cat food, a litter tray and a bowl. I think the kitten will live in paradise now. And it’s nice to know that this robot-like lady was actually kind-hearted. © THE SRCH / VK
  • I was 27, my daughter was 6. We were very poor. So, I was walking along the street, no money, only a couple of potatoes to eat.
Suddenly, a cool car pulls up next to me. A man looks out, “Get in, I’ll take you for a ride.” And I burst into tears and spilled everything. The man frowned and said sharply to the driver, “Let’s go to the usual place for dinner.”
We arrived at a restaurant, he sat me down, ordered a bunch of different delicacies, and I couldn’t eat. He said, “Eat, we’ll wrap some food to go, you’ll have enough for your daughter too.” I ate, and they really gave me a lot of bags with food. Then they drove me home.
And from then on, every month on the fifth day of the month he came and brought bags with food. And that happened for several years! He was like an angel to me. © Overheard / Ideer
  • I only recently realized what a great gift I got from my parents for my eighth birthday. At the time, the book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was just released. I read the first one, I loved it immensely, so my mom and dad got me the second book as well.
I opened it and there was one sock inside. I didn’t get it at the time. Why one, why did I need it, what was it doing in the book? I read it quickly, but by the end of the book I forgot about the sock.
Then a month ago, I found it and remembered about the sock inside. I was shocked by the symbolism: how cool my parents were in choosing gifts, how cool they were in giving them to me, I am very grateful to them for that! © Chamber 6 / VK
  • I live with my grandmother. When I go to work, I don’t take my keys: my grandmother doesn’t usually go out.
Yesterday I came home, the door is closed. I knocked, no one answers. I called — silence. I went downstairs, sat on the bench.
Then something made me go round the house, and I witnessed this: some old man was climbing through our window to the street. Grandma was holding him, helping him get down. Anyway, the man got to the ground, caught his hat, shouted something like, “I’ll come early tomorrow!” And left.
I waited a few minutes and went home. The door was already open, my grandmother was pretending to have been asleep, and a modest bouquet of flowers was peeking out from the corner of the room. © Chamber 6 / VK
  • After my husband woke up and saw that I had taken off his sneakers, I heard him say, “Oh, my dear.” For a few summer months, my husband works very hard. He is a construction foreman and works double shifts.
Sometimes my beloved literally falls on the bed and sleeps. In the morning, he undresses and takes a shower. And on one of these days, my husband didn’t even take his shoes off. So, I took off his shoes. I thought it was normal.
But it turns out his ex-wife had never done that. He always says nice things about his ex-wife, just like I do about my exes. But it was that fact that made me so sad. After all, if you care about a person, is it so difficult to remove their shoes in the moments of fatigue? © Chamber 6 / VK
  • I got on the bus with my boyfriend, assuming he would pay. He starts looking in his pockets for his wallet, but it’s not there! It so happened that I also didn’t take money with me.
We are sitting, there are a lot of people, we don’t know what to do. It’s not an option to return home, as we are late. The girl sitting opposite us pulls out her wallet and says, “Guys, I understand you, I’ve been there too, I’ll pay for you.”
We were ready to fall through the ground! We started to say that we didn’t need it, but she ignored our objections and paid. We were so thankful to her! There are still good people. © Overheard / Ideer
  • 2 years ago, I found out that my father was not my biological father. This news came as a shock to me, as we are very close.
To calm me down, my dad asked me to talk, “Alina, when I met your mom, she was pregnant with you. Or rather, she found out about it after 3 of our dates. Your mom honestly told me everything. She suggested I leave, because I was only 20 years old and the prospect of becoming a father scared me.
Besides, your mom and I weren’t even in a relationship yet. And then, as I was about to say goodbye forever, I saw your mom holding a picture. I asked what it was. And it was your first ’picture.’ Or rather, an ultrasound scan. I asked to see it and she didn’t say no.
As soon as I saw you, I knew you were mine. And I didn’t leave. I wanted to stay so badly. And you’re my girl, my own daughter. Don’t you ever doubt that. Otherwise, if I haven’t managed to assure you of my love in all these years, my life has been lived in vain.” © Chamber 6 / VK
  • When I was a child, on my way to school, I saw a stray cat catch a pigeon. It was floundering, but the cat grabbed it even harder and carried it somewhere. I didn’t know what to do, but I really wanted to save the bird.
I ran up and literally opened the cat’s mouth with my hands. The pigeon flew away. When I looked more closely at the cat, I saw that he was all wounded and very thin. I couldn’t leave it like this.
I didn’t go to school that day because I brought the cat home. My mom is the kindest woman in the world, so she understood me and even praised me. We fed the cat, bathed him, treated his wounds. And we named him Tishka. Tishka has been living with us for 12 years now. © Chamber 6 / VK
  • I am a single mom, sometimes I have to take my 4-year-old daughter to the office. Luckily, my boss has never been against my daughter’s visits and is very nice to me and her. On the last visit like this, my boss pointed out that my daughter often plays with plasticine. I replied that she just loves modelling.
And the next day the boss gave me 20 boxes of plasticine. I was shocked by this kindness! You should have seen the joyful eyes of my child. And I am also happy that I have such caring and kind people around me, and I am very grateful to my boss for this wonderful gift. © Chamber 6 / VK
  • My father brought us up in strictness. 3 sons — 3 “rocks.” And tears are for girls.
Recently, our sister got married. She and the groom had a simply adorable, touching ceremony. I shed a tear, and I look round, and my 2 brothers are crying too. And it was so funny. “The 3 rocks” were so happy for their little sister that they couldn’t help themselves.
I started to look round, God forbid my father should see us. And he’s standing in the corner of the hall weeping. Mom wiped his face with her handkerchief and stroked his back, but it didn’t help. My brothers and I went up to him and hugged him. Upbringing, of course, is a good thing, but family is more important. © Ward No. 6 / VK

And these real-life stories prove that kindness can move mountains.
