37-year-old Avril Lavigne Gets Married and Reveals What It Means to Truly Find Her Soulmate

1. The pop-punk princess’s dating history has been quite complicated.

Avril was known for having a thing for musicians. She had a fair share of romances, including 2 marriages that didn’t work out, one in 2006 with Deryck Whibley who was initially a friend of hers, and the other in 2013 with Nickelback star Chad Kroeger.

After her last divorce with Chad in 2016, Avril was linked to other singers, before meeting Mod Sun in 2021. An encounter that would change her life.

2. Avril Lavigne was not looking for love.

After the many relationship failures, Avril was definitely not looking for a new man. Instead, she only wanted to focus on her career and herself. And we can see how bad it was when she shared, “I can’t believe that I’ve been hurt or mistreated by this many people. I need a break from relationships.” But things changed for her the minute she saw Mod.

She met the rapper and producer when they worked on her last album, Love Sux. They also teamed up for the track “Flames” for his album Internet Killed the Rockstar. She was not looking for love and almost didn’t allow herself to fall for him, but they had an immediate connection from their first day in the studio together. They started dating and fell in love with each other.

3. They proudly show off their love and affection.

The 2 love birds don’t shy away from showing their love as they regularly appear on each other’s Instagram accounts. The rapper and singer wished his then-girlfriend a happy birthday with an adorable post, which he captioned: “To the most radiant + graceful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on, you have made my dreams come true in so many ways.”

Lavigne has also shared cute pictures, letting the word know about their romance. They made their red carpet debut as a couple at the MTV Video Music Awards, before sharing a kiss on the 2022 Grammys Red Carpet, where they both looked fond of each other.

4. “It was the most perfect, romantic proposal I could ever ask for.”

After some time together, Mod decided to pop the question we have been waiting for. He got down on one knee to ask his lover to be his wife, and the proposal took place in Paris on March 27.

Avril shared during an interview: “It was the most perfect, romantic proposal I could ever ask for. We were in Paris on a boat in the Seine River. We had a violin player, champagne, and roses. It felt like time stood still, and it was just the 2 of us in the moment.”

5. The ring was heart-shaped, just like she wanted.

The rapper popped the question with a custom-designed, heart-shaped ring set in a royal setting with little hearts from XIV Karats from Beverly Hills. The ring has the words “Hi Icon” engraved in it, which are the very first words Mod said to his wife-to-be.

He made sure the ring was heart-shaped because that’s what Avril wanted. “He knew from the very beginning I wanted a heart-shaped diamond because on the day we met, we had matching heart-shaped rings on. We’ve worn them every day since, so it’s only fitting to have a heart-shaped engagement ring. I love it so much.”
