9 Actors Who Played Contrasting Roles and Were Brilliant in Both of Them
While some actors appear on-screen playing similar characters, others explore new facets of their talent. Sometimes it’s really interesting to watch how a professional actor skillfully transforms into a totally different person.
At Bright Side, we admire actors who are not afraid of artistic challenges, and we want to show you 9 of them.
Emma Stone — La La Land and Cruella
Emma Stone usually plays cute girls with a sense of humor. But this time, she will appear in the role of the insidious villain, Cruella. The film of the same name will be released in 2021 and will tell the story of this charming antagonist who adores everything in black and white and dreams of wearing a fur coat made of Dalmatian skin.
Robbie Coltrane — Harry Potter and Great Expectations
It’s hard to imagine Robbie Coltrane, the actor who portrayed the good-natured Hagrid, without his mane and beard. However, in the 2012 screen adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel, Great Expectations, the actor portrayed a completely different character — he played the role of a lawyer, Jaggers.
Elizabeth Banks — Walk of Shame and The Hunger Games
Elizabeth Banks is not afraid of portraying diverse characters. Moreover, the actress is willing to sacrifice her beauty in order to play a character in the most authentic way. So, for the role of Effie in The Hunger Games, she was made up in such a way that you could hardly tell who the gorgeous blonde, Banks, really was.
Sophie Turner — Game of Thrones and Josie
Sophie Turner is known by many for her role of Sansa Stark in the iconic TV series, Game of Thrones. Additionally, the actress also starred in the new X-Men movie. But in 2018, Turner took part in the thriller Josie, where she played an insidious avenger and bounty hunter that had nothing in common with the Lady of Winterfell.
Jim Carrey — Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Dark Crimes
Jim Carrey is an actor who has enough talent to play both comedic and dramatic roles. The fact that Carrey knows how to make people laugh and cry has already been proven by films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show, and many others. And recently, he played the main character in the dramatic thriller, Dark Crimes.
Sharon Stone — Basic Instinct and Lovelace
Sharon Stone became famous after Basic Instinct was released. However, apart from the fatal writer, she played dozens of different women. In particular, in the drama, Lovelace, Stone appeared in the part of a strict mother, whose daughter became victim to an abusive husband.
Natalie Dormer — Game of Thrones and Penny Dreadful: City of Angels
Natalie Dormer is not afraid to play different types of characters. The actress can portray a fatal beauty, like she did in The Tudors and Game of Thrones, or have her temples shaved to become a strong-willed warrior, as she did in The Hunger Games.
In the fantasy horror series, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, Dormer embodied a plain woman and earned even more praise from audiences.
Peter Dinklage — Game of Thrones and I Care a Lot
Tyrion Lannister was the role that brought Peter Dinklage worldwide fame. But the actor managed to star in a dozen new films after Game of Thrones. For example, Dinklage played a charismatic Russian mafioso, Roman Lunyov, in the criminal comedy, I Care a Lot.
Kristen Stewart — Charlie’s Angels and Spencer
The production of a new biopic about Princess Diana has begun filming. The film was named Spencer. It will explore what happened to her 3 days before divorcing her husband. The main role will be played by the leading star of the Twilight saga, Kristen Stewart, who recently portrayed tomboys, both in Charlie’s Angels and Underwater.
Diana’s story has been filmed several times. In the 2013 biopic, the Princess of Wales was embodied by Naomi Watts, and in the TV series, The Crown, young Diana was played by Emma Corrin.
