Channing Tatum Opens Up About Single Parenting and the Secrets to Be a Good Dad
Channing Tatum is a proud father of her 10-year-old daughter Everly. And, as every first-time parent, he is still learning daily how to prepare a child for the world. But there are some values that he firmly believes are crucial to raising a strong little girl.
Channing Tatum and the actress Jenna Dewan were married for nine years, and the result of their love came in the form of their daughter, Everly. Unfortunately, the couple got divorced in 2018, but this move was crucial for Tatum to become even closer to his child. “I just dropped everything and focused on her. We’ve become best friends,” he mentioned in an interview.
However, not everything was rainbows and butterflies to him as he realized he was now a single father. As he grew up very differently from her daughter, he found himself lost, not knowing what to do with the strong little girl he had in front of him. He said, “I was afraid because I didn’t know how to be the dad I wanted. I just wanted to do a good job ... whatever that meant.”
But now that the years passed by and his daughter is 10, he feels more confident as a dad, sharing advice and even writing a child book. He believes being a good parent is having the will, being present, and wanting to show up.
Also, maintaining boundaries is essential. With his experience, he noticed that setting rules is the key to decreasing his daughter’s anxiety and stress levels.
Raising Everly differently than how he was raised was also mandatory for him. He remembers situations with his father where he would say, “Touch that again, you’re going to get a whipping,” that’s not how he wants to educate his daughter. “We don’t spank Evy, I have to learn where to be strong, where to be firm, but not in the way I was,” he mentioned.
Not only is he a good father, but rumor has it that he is generally a good human being. His current girlfriend, Zoe Kravitz, gushes over him anytime she’s been asked about their relationship, “He’s just a wonderful human.”
