You’ll also see that they’re going to be moisturized. “When I was younger, I hated everything about [my hair]. I wanted it to be anything but what it was. The images that I saw on TV and in magazines and film reaffirmed that I wasn’t ’it’, and people who look like me aren’t ’it’. In my early forties, I just came out reborn and loving myself,” she shared.

She teaches her daughter to love her curls.

Union now believes that it is crucial to set the right example for your kids when it comes to accepting your natural hair.

“Just growing it out, loving my own texture, loving my own curls, letting them see my natural hair texture, letting them see my natural curls, letting them see the whole process: how I wash my hair, how I deep condition, when I do a steam, letting them see me get my hair trimmed! Having your kids see you get regular hair cuts and trims, you don’t even think about how freeing that can be,” she said.
