“Harry Potter” Star Sir Michael Gambon Sadly Passed Away
Actor Sir Michael Gambon, best known as Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, peacefully passed away at 82. His wife, Lady Gambon, and son, Fergus Gambon, issued a statement announcing the sad news and the cause of death.
“We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon. Beloved husband and father, Michael, died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82. We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time, and thank you for your messages of support and love,” said the statement.
Gambon, who won four TV BAFTAs, three Olivier Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards, enjoyed a successful career of five decades across television, film, radio, and theater. However, he is most renowned for portraying Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series, taking over the role from Richard Harris after his passing in 2002.
In 1998, he received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to the entertainment industry.
Rupert Grint and Emma Watson shared their condolences on social media. Grint remembered him as a role model, saying, “He captivated me as a kid and became a personal role model of mine for finding the fun and eccentricities in life.” While Watson highlighted his kindness.
