“I Was Never Drawn to Being a Mother,” What Changed Cameron Diaz’s Mind to Become a Mom at Age 47

Cameron Diaz is full of surprises. Years ago, she revealed that she didn’t believe in marriage and even called it a “dying institution,” but after some time, she walked down the aisle with her now-husband, Benji. And that’s not the only time Cameron Diaz changed her mind about something. She also didn’t want to become a mother, but she surprised us with the announcement that she welcomed her daughter, Raddix, at age 47.

Bright Side got curious about why Cameron Diaz changed her mind about marriage and parenthood, so we decided to find out the reason behind it.

Diaz views her marriage as beneficial and essential to her health and well-being rather than as something she didn’t want and didn’t even believe in.

Diaz met her husband, Benji Madden, in 2014 and got married the next year. This was not only a surprise for us, but for the actress too, as her decision also shocked her. “I didn’t think it was something I’d do, and I don’t know if I’d have done it if I hadn’t met my husband. It was a surprise.”

As it seems, Madden played a big part in what changed Diaz’s mind about marriage, but nevertheless, she now believes that her decision was pretty awesome.

Not having a baby has made things easier for Diaz, but it wasn’t an easy decision to make.

Back in 2014, in an interview, Diaz revealed that she couldn’t imagine taking care of a baby all day, every day, for 18 years or more. “It’s so much more work to have children. To have lives besides your own that you are responsible for — I didn’t take that on.”

Diaz said that even though her life might’ve been easier than other mothers, that didn’t mean that things were always easy for her. “Not having a baby might really make things easier, but that doesn’t make it an easy decision. I like protecting people, but I was never drawn to being a mother.”

Diaz went from “having kids it’s too much work” to “spending time with them is heaven.”

Before she welcomed her daughter, Raddix, into her life, Diaz’s answer to why she didn’t have kids was because it was too much work. However, her perspective on that changed, and now she revealed that having a kid was the best thing that ever happened to her and her husband. She explained that spending time with her little one and witnessing all her leaps and bounds is heaven.

One of the things that held her back from motherhood was fear.

Diaz said that she didn’t want to be a mother because she feared she wouldn’t find “the one” since she didn’t have much luck with that. “I was just scared. I was afraid I wouldn’t find a partner.” She also gives a lot of credit to Gwyneth Paltrow for pushing her to start a family and says that she wouldn’t have dared to become a mother if it wasn’t for her.

Paltrow would always tell her, “You will get married. You will have children,” and whenever Diaz disagreed with her, she would say, “You have to do it. You have to. If you don’t do this, you will be so sad that you didn’t do it.”

Well, better late than never! And Diaz doesn’t regret her decision to become a mother in the later part of her life. She’s actually glad because she wouldn’t have been the same mother at 25.
