In November 2021, Jessica Simpson took to Instagram to share a confession about personal struggles and how she wants them to inspire others in a similar situation. Two years later, she re-shared the meaningful image and text, and it quickly went viral for its raw honesty.

Along with the candid photo of herself, in a dark room, dressing in a tracksuit and with a face free of makeup, the 43-year-old actress and singer wrote a lengthy caption.

“This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself,” she began. “I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self-respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.”

As the caption continues, it’s clear the 43-year-old is referring to her sobriety journey, and how she made a conscious decision, 6 years ago, to change how she dealt with her personal traumas.

“I wanted to feel the pain, so I could carry it like a badge of honor,” she continued. “I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward — never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.”

“The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power. Today I do. I have made nice with the fears and I have accepted the parts of my life that are just sad. I own my personal power with soulful courage. I am wildly honest and comfortably open. I am free,” she concluded.

Simpson’s honesty received nothing but praised from her followers. “So inspiring. This is beauty. This is courage,” one person wrote.

Someone else admitted going through a similar situation and expressed how Simpson’s words meant to them. “I really needed to read these words! I even sent them to myself. Maybe just, maybe. I can face my own truth,” they commented.
