Keanu Reeves Bought a House for His Mom Before Buying His Own, Here’s Why

Keanu Reeves may be considered one of the nicest people in Hollywood and, of course, not without reason. He is a humble, ordinary man who is always willing to help people who are in need. For example, he once gave a set designer some extra funds for his family troubles. Additionally, he often puts others’ needs before his own, and this story perfectly illustrates this.

His mom supported his dream of becoming an actor.

During a press junket for the movie Constantine in 2005, Keanu Reeves fondly recalled his teenage years and how he embarked on his acting career. At the age of 15, Reeves asked his mother, Patricia Taylor, if it was okay for him to pursue acting, and she gave him her blessing. “Whatever you want, dear,” she said. Reeves then wasted no time and enrolled in an acting class to study the field.

Although he acknowledged that his mother couldn’t have stopped him, Reeves expressed gratitude for her support. And Reeves truly loves what he does.

Taylor worked with celebrities too.

Keanu Reeves’ mother has a notable career in the costume and production design industry. She has designed costumes for renowned musicians, such as David Bowie, Emmylou Harris, and Alice Cooper. Taylor has many notable movies in her portfolio for which she worked as a production designer, like, for example, Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, Couches, Tables and Darts, and The Four Corners of Nowhere.

However, her most famous creation is the bunny outfit worn by Dolly Parton for a magazine cover in 1978. Reeves once said that he wore this very same outfit to a Halloween party as a teenager.

Reeves has attended major events with his mother many times.

Reeves and his mom have appeared on the red carpet numerous times together. When the actor received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005, his mother was by his side supporting him.

Lately, in a display of appreciation toward Taylor, the actor also took her as his date to the 2020 Oscars, allowing her to experience the glitz and glamour of Hollywood firsthand. Despite only presenting an award at the ceremony and not being nominated for anything, the actor’s decision to bring his mother as his date only made him more endearing in the eyes of fans.

The actor was close with his father only in the beginning.

Reeves’ parents got divorced during his very early childhood when he was just 3 years old. After that, he and his mom relocated to another country, however, the actor didn’t lose touch with his father, Samuel Reeves Jr., at least in the beginning.

According to the actor, Reeves was 13 years old when they met with his father for the last time. In one of his interviews, the actor described their relationship as “pretty heavy and full of pain” and it couldn’t be repaired.

Today, Reeves doesn’t want to reconcile with his father.

Despite the desire for reconciliation expressed by his father, Reeves doesn’t intend to reunite with him. In an interview he gave in 2020, Samuel Reeves Jr. commented, “I pretty much know what he’s doing, but he’s made it clear that he wants nothing to do with me.”

But despite the regrets and rejection from his son, Reeves Jr. says that his son will always have a special place in his heart. “I’m embarrassed by it all,” he revealed. “Keanu said my life was tragic and, oh boy, does that hurt! Sad, yeah? I never figured things would end up this way. But he’ll always be my boy.”

All his gratitude goes to his mom.

After the loss of his beloved partner, Reeves spent the majority of his adult life living in hotels and short-term rental apartments. Luckily, he has met the love of his life again (see here and here).

It wasn’t until he turned 40 that he finally decided to purchase a home for himself — but not before he bought one for his mother as well. Reeves was raised by his mother while his father was pretty much absent in his life, which makes her the most important person to him.
