Late Tina Turner’s Husband Gave Her One of His Kidneys So That She Could Live Longer

A legendary star Tina Turner died at age 83 after an exhausting illness. She suffered from high blood pressure, and this affected her kidneys. Her husband didn’t hesitate a minute and was ready to do everything and anything to save Tina’s life. Many fans are left speechless after finding out how persistently Erwin Bach struggled for the life of his beloved Tina.

Tina was aware of her condition, but she just let it go at some point.

Tina Turner was first diagnosed with hypertension in 1978, but, as she said later, she “didn’t care much about it.” Years passed, and in 2009 she had a stroke because she just left her hypertension uncontrolled. She found out that both of her kidneys had lost 35% of their function.

She once wrote an essay for the Show Your Kidneys Love campaign, which spreads awareness about kidney disease. There Tina confessed that for a long time she didn’t realize how important it was to treat her high blood pressure. She also admitted that she had put herself “at great danger by refusing to accept the reality that I required daily medication for the rest of my life.”

At a critical point, Tina’s husband appeared to be her life-saver.

Kidney failure is often called a “silent killer,” because its symptoms are not visible until 80 percent of the tissue is lost. Tina said, “As it happened to me, hypertension is one of the most frequent causes of kidney failure.”

She finally started the procedure of dialysis. She confessed, “It was my only option, but it was depressing to be connected to a machine for hours. For the next nine months, all my life was about dialysis. I realized that the struggle for healing is always also a struggle for accurate information.”

The procedure required a transplant from a living donor. That was the option Tina took, with the help of her husband.

“I was lucky that Erwin offered to donate one of his kidneys to me. It was the first step to kidney transplantation, a very complex procedure,” she wrote.

In her memoir of 2018, Tina wrote that Bach “shocked me by saying that he wanted to give me one of his kidneys.” She added that she was “overwhelmed by the enormity of his offer.” After this, she described feeling “overwhelmed and relieved that we’d come through this alive.”

Tina Turner’s love story is not the only example when a spouse literally saved the other spouse’s life. This also happened to another admired duo, Pierce Brosnan and Keely Shaye Smith. Keely Shaye is known as an extraordinary woman, and here’s how she totally saved her husband’s life, proving her love for him has always been stronger than steel.
