Beautiful makeup can give a woman more confidence since it helps to enhance her strong sides and hide imperfections. However, very often we prefer not to change our makeup style with age thinking that a lipstick that looked perfect on us at age 20 will still look as stunning at age 40. But this is not true. We’ve collected some recommendations from makeup artists and hairdressers that will help us look several years younger without the help of cosmetologists or plastic surgeons.

Bright Side is sure that any woman can look much younger than the age indicated in her passport.

1. Add warm and fair highlights to your hairstyle.

Many women try to lighten up their hair with age which is a good idea because fairer shades freshen up a look and therefore, help one to look several years younger. However, there are a couple of nuances that one should consider.

First of all, choose warm shades. If you dye your hair ash blonde, it will likely add more years to your look rather than decrease them. Secondly, it’s not necessary to lighten up your hair completely — adding fair highlights of natural colors should be more than enough. It will help to freshen up even a warm brown hair color, which doesn’t suit many women.

If you consider becoming a blonde to be too drastic of a change, then you can opt for a warm chocolate shade. But before dying your hair, make sure that it matches the color of your skin, otherwise, your hair won’t look natural.

2. Give your brows a natural tinge and make them visually denser.

Vivid brows of a saturated color make the face visually younger. This is not only the opinion of makeup artists but scientists as well. In some of their research, they asked volunteers to look at pictures of people with different facial contrasts — one group had less vivid, bright brows and lips, and the second group had brighter and more vivid lips and brows. Most participants in the experiment considered women who had more contrast between their brows and lips to be younger.

This serves as evidence that using shadows or pencils for eyebrows in order to “fill in the gaps” makes sense, as these products will help make this part of your face brighter.

If your hair is too light, then brows 2 shades darker than the hair will look much better than brows of the same shade as the hair. Women with black or brown hair have fewer problems because their hair is already dark and all they need to do is find the right shape and fill in the gaps containing little hair with a pencil or shadow.

3. Make your lips visually plumper — but not too much.

Women’s lips become thinner with age and there is nothing we can do about it. Some solve this issue with the help of cosmetologists while others prefer to stick to the right makeup.

You can visually enlarge your lips with the help of a pencil that’s the same shade as your lips. It will help you draw the contour that you need. The main thing here is to not overdo it, otherwise, you’ll end up having unrealistic or even funny looking makeup. Leaving a gap of 2 millimeters between the line of the lips and the line of the pencil should be enough to fill in the problematic areas. After that, you can paint your lips with a colorful lipstick while minding the new contour lines.

There are special exercises that can help your lips stay younger without injections. Good news — these exercises don’t take up much time at all.

4. Opt for more voluminous, slightly sloppy hairstyles.

Any perfect hairdo, whether it’s evenly styled curls or straightened hair, makes a woman look older. Hairdressers recommend doing more sloppy hairstyles for those who want to look younger. Both a ponytail or loosened hair will work.

If you want to have curls, stick with simple, natural ones; and if you like straight hair, sport a layered haircut, like Jennifer Aniston or Reese Witherspoon. Shorter hair near the face will help smooth the contour and can make you look younger.

5. Whiten your teeth.

Even if you had shiny white teeth during your childhood, they will lose their whiteness with age due to the products we eat and the lifestyles we lead. But white teeth always look attractive and research has proven that a white smile helps a person look 5 years younger. That’s why it’s so important to pay attention to the brightness of your smile.

Experts recommend choosing the right tinge when whitening your teeth and not overdoing it. The natural whiteness of one’s teeth always looks more effective than excessive whiteness.

6. Wear a long fringe that isn’t too thick.

A long fringe is perfect for hiding signs of aging because it softens facial lines, enhances eyes and helps to hide small wrinkles on the forehead. The best option is to make the fringe light and slightly uneven — this trick will help your hairdo look lighter and more attractive.

7. Use correct eye makeup to hide hooded eyelids.

Hooded eyelids are not connected with aging but rather with the physiology of a woman. If you don’t have them — good for you! But if there is an upper lid hanging over your movable eyelid, then, unfortunately, this feature can make you look older.

In order to hide a hooded eyelid, makeup artists recommend using nude shadows which should be applied to the main part of the eyelid. The corners of the eyes and the area under the brows should be highlighted with lighter eyeshadows. In order to draw the attention away from the hooded eyelid, you can highlight your eyes with a pencil or eyeliner. In this case, don’t opt for black, but for a brown or grey shade instead.

8. Choose a makeup foundation with warm tones.

The warmer shade your skin has, the more natural and younger it looks. That’s why when choosing a makeup foundation, give preference to those with a warm or even yellowish subtone. Of course, you should take into account your natural skin color — a foundation shouldn’t be much brighter than the color of your skin.

Makeup artists are sure that this rule also works for girls with dark complections who often have a cooler skin tone.

9. Opt for elongating lash mascaras or natural looking false eyelashes.

Even young girls who have thin and short eyelashes aren’t quick to say “no” to mascara. However, you should remember to choose your mascara correctly. For women who want to look younger, an elongating mascara is a perfect choice because it can enhance the look without making the lashes appear too heavy.

Another option that makeup artists use often is false lashes. However, it’s important that they look natural, which is why it’s better to give preference to long, not-so-thick eyelashes.
