“I Changed Myself to Fit What They Wanted” How Demi Moore Has Finally Started to Embrace Who She Is at 59

We get so invested in our relationships that we start losing our own identity bit by bit without even noticing. And after years of tumultuous romances and marriages, Demi Moore finally realized that in order to give love to another person, she needs to fully love herself first and never let go of her own desires. Today, at 59, she was struck by Cupid again, and this time, the actress will do things differently.

Bright Side agrees that self-care should always come first. We’ll share with you the fascinating journey that is the love life of Demi Moore and the priceless lessons that her past relationships have taught her.

A journey of romances and heartbreaks

Recognized as one of the all-time most beautiful women, Demi Moore is also one of Hollywood’s top actresses. But when it comes to her love life, we can’t say that she always had the same success. The actress went through a string of romances, including 3 marriages that ended with a divorce.

And even though it might seem that she had it all at the time, Moore revealed that she lost her identity while trying to make her marriages work.

In 2020, the actress noted that the biggest lesson she learned was to accept “who you are just as you are.” She went on, admitting, “For me, I had changed myself so many times over and over to fit what I thought somebody else wanted.”

Demi explained that in order to please her partners and honor their love, she gave the relationship everything she had. And while doing so, she forgot that loving and accepting yourself comes first. She believes that we are “conditioned to work toward being desired, but we’re not supposed to have desires of our own,” and this is a huge mistake that will ultimately break a relationship.

Getting married at 18

Her first husband was musician Freddy Moore, whose surname she kept. Their union lasted for 5 years until they got a divorce in 1985. In her memoir, the actress mentioned being unfaithful to Freddy the night before exchanging their vows.

Demi further explained this act, saying that it was a reaction to having doubts about marrying Freddy. She realized that she was doing it to distract herself from grieving the loss of her dad. She admitted, “I couldn’t get out of the marriage, but I could sabotage it.”

Forming a family with Bruce Willis

Her second husband was Hollywood star Bruce Willis, whom she married in 1987 after 4 months of dating. Their marriage ended in 2000, and the duo are parents to 3 girls.

In her memoir, Demi admitted that Bruce expressed his doubts about getting married to her.
She also revealed that during their married life, her husband wanted her to be a stay-at-home mom, and was jealous of her ever-rising career.

Despite their ups and downs, the marriage lasted more than a decade. And it seems that after their split, the ex-couple started to get along better than ever. The actress explained, “We felt more connected than we did before the divorce.”

Today, her relationship with Bruce continues to be very friendly, including the one she has with his new wife, who she had lovely words of support for when she shared a 1997 red carpet pic of her and her then-husband on her Instagram.

Feeling young again with Ashton

Her third husband was actor Ashton Kutcher who is 15 years her junior. The couple started dating in 2003, and tied the knot 2 years later when Demi was 43. She later opened up about being addicted to him. This situation has even affected her relationship with her own daughters who revealed feeling ’forgotten’ during this time.

Looking back at her relationship with Ashton, Demi admitted, “I just felt like a 15-year-old girl, hoping somebody liked me.” The actress also explained, ’’I wanted to be something other than who I am. And I gave my power away." She also revealed that she “put him first” and even looked the other way during his numerous infidelities.

The marriage lasted 8 years and after their divorce, Demi noted in a TV interview, “I would say I blinded myself and I lost myself.”

Giving love another chance at 59

Today, at almost 60, the stunning actress has found love again in the arms of 46-year-old Swiss chef Daniel Humm.

And it seems that the adorable pair are completely enamored with one another. In May this year, the chef declared his love on his Instagram with a photo of them, captioned, “You’re beyond inspiring, and it’s amazing to witness grace and greatness.” He also thanked her for ’’being such a great teacher.’’

By the look of their deep connection and respect for each other, this might be the start of one fairy-tale-like romance.

After all, by going through a whirlwind of romances, Demi learned, “It’s a process of learning to love yourself,” and this might be the precious secret that will make this relationship flourish and last forever.

Do you agree that we gradually lose ourselves and forget about our own desires when we’re in a relationship?
