Took forever for me to watch The Simpsons- had such a negative connotation in my town in the 90s. My love of witches in shows and movies was frowned upon and I later loved HP as an adult.(Just saying that in comparison I picked arguably “worse” to watch instead) I am to the point in my adulthood where I am tired of cartoons that make fun of people relentlessly. I used to love many adult cartoons until my 30s. (You know, the point where Facebook reminds you of what odd and embarrassing status messages you posted 10+ years ago) Anyway, I was shocked how much I enjoy the Simpsons. Sure, the Halloween episodes are beyond crazy (yet we watched an episode in an English class in high school.. and as a kid I was allowed to watch the NSYNC episode lol) But I genuinely get excited to binge watch it.
16 Things That Prove Everything Happens for a Reason in “The Simpsons”
The Simpsons is no longer just a cartoon — it’s a legend. For more than 3 decades, the most popular cartoon characters have been talking about very serious problems of humankind in a very funny manner.
Bright Side decided to share some answers about the family that has millions of fans all over the world.
16. The car Homer has
You can find this out if you watch this intro (episode 15, season 17). The cartoon characters were substituted for real people, so now viewers can see what the main characters really look like and what car Homer Simpson drives. It was a Lada 2105.
15. How much Maggie costs
In the intro, when Maggie is “scanned” at the cash register, the machine shows the price. This number is the monthly average cost of care for a newborn baby (according to various social studies). The number changes from time to time under the influence of inflation.
14. A character that sounded like Michael Jackson
In the first episode of season 3, we see an insane guy who thinks he is Michael Jackson. Oddly enough, it actually was Michael Jackson, as he was a huge fan of the show. He didn’t want people to know the voice was his, so in the credits, there is an unknown name, John Jay Smith.
13. The number of changes you may notice in the new intro
In February 2009, the show’s creators updated the intro. Apu now has 8 babies instead of a dog, and at the end, the Simpsons gather in front of a flat-screen TV. What changes did you notice?
12. The purpose of the couch scenes
The couch scenes are a time regulator. If an episode is too long, the couch scene is shorter. If the episode is shorter than usual, they make the couch scene longer.
11. Why there’s a dog in The Itchy & Scratchy Show
The executives of the show decided to add a family dog in order to keep the interest of the audience. However, people were dissatisfied with the addition. The dog in The Itchy & Scratchy Show was a compromise.
10. Why Homer looks like Krusty
There is a reason why Homer and Krusty look so similar. In the very beginning, the clown wasn’t meant to be a totally different character — he was supposed to be Homer’s alter ego. This was supposed to show Bart that someone he doesn’t respect (Homer) and someone he loves very much (Krusty) are the same person.
9. Why there’s so much of The Beatles
The show and the legendary musicians like each other. 3 band members took part in the show: George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Paul McCartney. John Lennon died long before the premiere of the show.
8. The word from The Simpsons that is now in the Oxford Dictionary
Homer’s “d’oh” became so popular that it was even included in the Oxford Dictionary of English.
7. How Matt Groening signs his work
Matt Groening, the creator and animator of the show, found a nice way to insert his initials in every episode of The Simpsons — just take a look at Homer’s ears and hair.
6. The person who voiced the first word Maggie said
In episode 10, season 4, Maggie says her first word: "Daddy." Elizabeth Taylor was invited to record this word.
5. What did The Simpsons predict would appear in London?
When Lisa went to London (episode 19, season 6, 1995), we see a skyscraper behind Tower Bridge that looks a lot like “The Shard.” Even the location seems to be the same. The construction of the tower started 14 years later.
4. What technologies did they have back in 1995?
In the same episode (episode 19, season 6), Lisa’s future fiancé has a watch with a phone! In 1995!
3. And that’s not all...
A stationary phone had a video call feature. This was in the same year, 1995 (episode 19, season 6).
2. And here is another amazing "coincidence."
In 2009, viewers saw Alvin and the Chipmunks and Star Wars posters. The prediction came true: sequels of both movies were released in the same month and year, December 2015.
1. Do the Simpsons have a time travel machine?
No, they just talk to the characters from Futurama. So that’s who tells them everything!
