A nuclear family isn’t a requirement for raising a successful child! Before the advent of LGBTQ pride, these Hollywood stars grew up in unconventional types of families, and they grew up happy and have achieved great success!

So here Bright Side brings you some famous celebrities who were raised by LGBTQ parents that refute prejudices and prove that it doesn’t matter what orientation your parents are as long as they love you!

1. Mandy Moore

Mandy’s parents divorced after almost 30 years of married life and her mother Stacy Moore-Friedman started a new life with a female partner, tennis player Claudette Laliberte. Mandy is very supportive of her mother’s lifestyle.

2. Amy Adams

Amy was born in a Mormon family, though her parents, who had 7 children together, divorced when she was 11 and left the church. In that same year, Amy’s mother Kathryn moved in with a woman. Despite the divorce, they seem to have a good relationship. Her mother is very happy about her career and Amy often invites her to the Oscars and other events, along with her brothers and sisters.

3. Kendall and Kylie Jenner

Kendall and Kylie`s father, retired Olympic decathlete, Bruce Jenner, publicly came out as Caitlyn Jenner in 2015 and went through a gender transition, after divorcing Kris Jenner in 2013. However, Caitlyn’s daughters accepted these changes with a deep love and understanding and they all still hang out together.

4. Jay-Z

Gloria Carter, Jay’s mother, came out in 2017 after sharing this news with her son. Jay was very happy about her and even confessed that he cried once he realized she felt had to hide it for so long. Later on he dedicated a song to her called Smile on his 4:44. album, that he recorded one day after his mother came out to him.

5. Robert De Niro

Robert’s parents divorced when he was a little boy. In 1944 De Niro Sr., a famous abstract expressionist painter, came out publicly as gay and had a relationship with poet Robert Duncan. He confessed that they weren’t the type of father and son who played basketball together, but they absolutely had a connection. Later on De Niro Jr. made a documentary about his father’s life.

6. Jodie Foster

Jodie was raised by 2 mothers — Evelyn Foster and her partner, that Jodie called “Aunt” Jo. The actress made a public coming out herself during her Golden Globe Awards speech in 2013.

7. Rene Russo

Rene Russo’s parents divorced when she was 2 years old, and from that point on she and her sister were raised by her mom, her mom`s girlfriend, and their gay friends. Rene revealed that, at that time, their mom was just pretty much abandoned and a lot of her friends came and helped her raise Rene and her sister.

8. Ally Sheedy

Ally Sheedy, one of the stars of the famous movie The Breakfast Club was raised by her mom, New York literary agent, Charlotte Sheedy, who came out as a lesbian after divorcing Ally’s father in 1971.

9. Ana Matronic

The Scissor Sisters singer, Ana Matronic had a gay dad — her parents split up when she was 3 and her father moved to San Francisco with a boyfriend. Despite this, Ana and her sister stayed with him in San Francisco 4 times a year during their childhood.

10. 50 Cent

50 Cent was raised by his mother, who, according to the rapper, was a lesbian. She died when he was only 8 years old, at which point, 50 Cent went to live with his grandparents. The rapper wrote a book called Playground about his childhood and his relationship with his mother.

11. Liza Minnelli

Liza’s father, Italian-American stage and film director, Vincente Minnelli, was openly gay when he lived in New York according to biographer Emmanuel Levy. But moving to Hollywood made him decide to keep his personal life very private. The relationship between Liza and her father was very warm throughout Vincente’s life.

12. Jena Malone

Hunger Games star Jena Malone had an unconventional childhood — she was raised by her mother, Deborah Malone, and her mom`s girlfriend. Jena herself stated that she had 2 moms and it was awesome.
