10 Celebrities Who Refuse to Take Photos With Fans or Sign Autographs
As the years go by and phones make it easier to take a picture in just one second, famous people have started to really dislike taking photos with fans. Ewan McGregor, for example, has referred to selfies as “soulless,” as fans who ask him for one make it harder for him to live his everyday life. But the main reason people take selfies with celebrities is simply to post them online so they can get attention. So it’s only natural for many celebrities to choose to deny fans any pictures with them.
1. Billie Eilish
The young singer and songwriter has expressed her annoyance at signing autographs, and her explanation is valid. As she explained, many of the times she signed autographs, she later saw them being sold online. As she puts it, “I’d way rather get a hug and talk to you than sign something so you can sell it.” She is more than happy though to take a selfie with her true fans who genuinely care about her.
2. Chris Pratt
The actor explained that he dislikes taking pictures with fans because all they want to do is brag to their friends about it. That’s why he will instead offer a handshake, but on many occasions, people will quickly snap a picture even if he has already declined. As he says, he has come to the conclusion that it’s okay to disappoint people and not always offer them what they want.
3. Joaquin Phoenix
The celebrated actor is okay with signing people’s autographs, but he draws the line when it comes to selfies.
Once, when a woman asked him for a photo, as he explained, “I said, ‘You know what? I don’t do that, but thanks so much for coming up.’ We chatted a bit. It was fun.” It seems that he values a real conversation with fans more than superficial encounters.
4. Bryan Cranston
The actor announced officially in 2018 that he would be retiring from signing autographs after 18 years of doing it. He said, “I’m overwhelmed by requests and I just can’t do it anymore. I love meeting fans and will personalize pics in person, but that’s all.” Luckily, for those who want a memento of him, he will gladly pose for a picture with you.
5. Amy Schumer
The comedian had a very unpleasant experience back in the day with a fan who chased her down the street and demanded to take a picture with her. When she refused to do so, the man replied, “We paid for you.” At first, she said that she would stop taking pictures altogether, but in more recent years, she has decided to only take pictures with nice people.
6. Jennifer Lawrence
Just walking down the street, the actress might have at least 1 person that asks for a selfie and her answer nowadays will be “no.” It’s not because she wants to be rude to anyone, it’s just that this is her way of keeping sheltered. Her job puts her under the spotlight and she feels that she needs to keep a level of privacy as much as she can.
7. Justin Bieber
“If you happen to see me out somewhere, know that I’m not gonna take a picture. I’m done taking pictures.” This is what the world-famous singer explained in an Instagram post.
He also added, “It has gotten to the point that people won’t even say hi to me or recognize me as a human, I feel like a zoo animal, and I wanna be able to keep my sanity. I realize people will be disappointed but I don’t owe anybody a picture.”
8. Shailene Woodley
The actress explained that she doesn’t like it when people take their phones out on the street just to take a picture with her. She doesn’t think that there is anything special in taking random selfies that don’t come with any specific memory. This is why she won’t take selfies on the street but only if she is doing something important or working. She wishes people would respect each other’s privacy.
9. Emma Watson
The Harry Potter star has decided that she will no longer take photos with fans due to concerns for her personal safety. As she says, “If someone takes a photograph of me and posts it, within 2 seconds they’ve created a marker of exactly where I am within 10 meters.” What she will do instead is interact with her fans for as long as they want and answer all their questions about Harry Potter.
10. Maisie Williams
“I still don’t feel like I owe anyone anything. If I don’t want a picture one day, I don’t have a problem saying no.” This is how the young actress feels, and she doesn’t really care if people think she is mean for reacting like that to selfies.
People think they know her and have certain expectations of her, but she is not there to meet those expectations. In her mind, she feels like this: “If I was really in love with someone, I wouldn’t just want a picture. I would want to hang out with them.”
Have you ever approached a famous person to ask for a photo or an autograph or to simply chat with them? How did they react?
