Early in our marriage my husband was moonlighting and I was a little nervous being alone after our son went to bed. I very carefully shut and locked the window in the living room that anyone could just walk in through & went to take my shower. When my husband got home the first thing he said was "why is the garage door up?"
Without the last paragraph, people would be saying, "Ooh, a ghost". I wonder how many "ghost stories" have very mundane explanations if you only knew. That said, I'm annoyed when people dismiss a story of something mysterious saying, "Oh, it was just this mundane thing", when they have no evidence and often no way to know that at all. They just dismiss the possibility of the supernatural or strange out of hand. Many "scientific explanations" of mysterious phenomenon are far less "scientific" than positing ghosts or aliens or bigfoot.
You escaped not because you ran fast, maybe the lion was not in a mood to attack or you have one less friend
Sounds weird ... but people lose things all the time. Maybe there's something truly mysterious here. Or maybe you forgot that you took the belt off in another room and it got thrown in with other things, etc.
