15 Couples Whose Love Stories Sound Like Fairy Tales

In a world where dating apps dominate, it’s refreshing to hear love stories that happen by chance. Sometimes, fate steps in at the perfect moment, proving that the best connections come when we least expect them.

  • Went to a wedding where I knew no one except the bride. While awkwardly standing by the bar, a guy walked up and said, ’You also look like you don’t belong here.’
Turns out, he was the groom’s coworker and also knew no one. We bonded over being random guests and fake-crashed the dance floor together. We’re getting married next year.
  • “Went on TV dating show ’Take Me Out’ where 30 women stand at podiums with lights that they can turn off at certain stages if the guy is not to their liking. Unfortunately I was too cheeky for their liking so all lights out for me or a ’blackout’ as it’s called.
Got a Facebook message a few days after the show aired from a girl that had seen me and liked me. Got on great from the start and have been with her ever since. Her light is still on for me after almost 6 years.” _zont_ / Reddit
  • A guy at the bar accidentally paid for my drink, thinking I was his friend. When he realized, he tried to get his money back, but the bartender refused. He looked at me, sighed dramatically, and said, ’Guess this means I have to buy you a drink now.’ We spent the rest of the night talking, and six years later, he’s still buying me drinks.
  • “I went to one of my works nights out at a local bowling place. I kept glancing over at this gorgeous girl in the other lane and occasionally noticing her glancing back. After about half an hour of debating with myself, I decided to just go over and speak to her, because what’s the worst that can happen, right? So I walk over and start speaking to her usual flirty stuff and I feel we hit it off nicely, so I confidently walk back to my lane and continue the night as normal and end up home.
A sudden fear hits the back of my head that I didn’t give her my name, number or any means of contacting me... I blew it! So I go to sleep, and wake up the next morning to discover a Facebook friend request from the girl, so I obviously accept and message her the usual formalities and then ask the glaring question: How did you get my name?
Her reply was, ’You yelled that’s how (insert my full name) does it after getting a strike.’ I’ve never both hated and loved myself so much for that moment... But it worked out, we’ve been together in a long distance relationship for 2 years, and it’s safe to say I’m in love.” ScenaRaptor / Reddit
  • “I was a graduate assistant and was on a hiring committee that was searching for 2 academic advisors. To get on the committee, my supervisor asked if I wanted to be a part of the search. I said, ’Yeah, I want to make sure we hire the hot one.’
Well, the last interview we had of the cycle was on a Friday at 8:30 in the morning. I remember waking in, seeing her, and knowing that she was the one. Her interview went amazing, and I strongly recommended that she be hired.
The committee agreed and 2 months later she started. We started dating a month after she started and got engaged 6 months after that. We’ve been married almost 2 years and have a beautiful little girl who is 3 months old.” bigpappabagel / Reddit
  • I was staying at a hotel for a work conference when I got stuck in an elevator with a random girl. At first, we both just stood there awkwardly, pushing the call button a million times, but after 15 minutes, we started talking.
Turns out, she was there for a completely different event. An hour later, we started joking about survival plans and laughed more than we panicked. After what felt like an eternity, the elevator moved, and she rushed off before I got her name.
Thought that was it—until the next morning, when I got a message: ’You left your notebook in the elevator. Meet me in the lobby?’ I did. We’ve been together for five years, and she is the mother of my son.
  • “I was 17 and working part-time at the mall. My husband-to-be started working not too long after me, and we made small talk. He had just moved to the USA from another country and had a really cute accent.
I honestly couldn’t understand half of what he said at first, but I just loved hearing him speak. We’ve been together ever since, and in May we’re going to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary.” SweetAzn / Reddit
  • My flight was delayed for six hours, and I was stuck at the gate next to a guy reading the same book as me. We made eye contact, and he went, ’Want to start a book club?’ I laughed, and we spent the whole delay talking.
When we finally boarded, we realized we were sitting next to each other. The universe really wanted us to meet. We’re married now.
  • “The reason I have the love of my life is all thanks to his dog. We lived in the same apartment complex, so it’s possible we might have run into each other at some point, but everything about how we met was almost like a Nicolas Sparks novel.
I was coming back from the pool when all of a sudden this beautiful husky just starts running at me. Now, if you know anything about me, I LOVE huskies. They are my favorite dog breed of all time. Well I start trying to get this dog to come over to me since it has no leash, I’m afraid it might run into the street.
Then, as soon as I’m about to grab him, this guy just starts booking it towards me and tackles this dog. When the guy starts to get up, the first thing I notice is he looks like the Greek god Apollo, and I know this guy can’t be single. I introduce myself, and he does the same, thanking me for helping get his ’Balto’ which just freaks me out because it’s the exact name I had planned for when I get a husky.
Well talk a little bit more, and then he says he has to go because he has a vet apt, well while walking I notice our apartments are exactly the opposite from each other. Well, the next few days I’m glued to my back door looking to see if he might be walking jack. Every time I see him I run out my door making sure I’m always looking as on fleek (did I use that right?) as possible.
What I then learn from this convo is that he went alone to my favorite band’s concert the other day because no one would go with him, and I missed the concert because I couldn’t find anyone to go with me. We both love Doctor Who, and the book I was reading when coming back from the pool is his favorite book and movie of all time.
So after days of stalking him out my window, he finally asks me out. I knew that he was meant for me when he was waving goodbye and fell into his backdoor that wasn’t closed all the way at the end of the night. 3 years later he’s sitting across the couch from me, redditing.” Sparksvoldemort492 / Reddit
  • “When I saw my now-husband for the first time, I was disappointed. Not because of him really, but because, in an instant, I realized that my plans of going overseas for work and all the money I thus far spent on the endeavor (exams/visas etc.), was for nothing. I realized immediately who he was. He was going to be my forever.
I would never call it love at first sight (such a cliché), I just knew. He was in a relationship and I had to patiently wait. I did not tell anybody (including him) what my true feelings were, but I was so certain that I never panicked.
Two months later, we had our first date. Happily married now with two kiddies.” docsleepy / Reddit
  • I worked at my college library and kept noticing this guy returning books way past the due date—like weeks late. When I finally called him out on it, he shrugged and said, ’Guess I’ll have to make it up to you. Coffee?’
Turns out he wasn’t actually terrible at returning books, he just kept checking them out as an excuse to talk to me. Well played. Five years later, we are expecting our second baby girl.
  • “I don’t remember our official first meeting. We worked together and, to be honest, we barely spoke at all. He was a very shy person, and quiet people would make me nervous.
One day I randomly asked him what he does for fun, after months of working together, trying to get a feel for him. He said he didn’t do anything and mostly hung out in his room. I said I didn’t really do anything either, and we should do nothing together. It was a completely innocent suggestion, and I never thought anything would come of it.
We have been together for eleven years and married for six. I suppose the moral of the story is that there doesn’t always have to be some grand meeting and sparks instantly flying. Sometimes, you’re around someone for a while and slowly realize life is much better with them in it.” WhiskeyBrite / Reddit
  • I met my now-husband at a coffee shop when I spilled my entire drink on him. I panicked, mumbled an apology, and bolted before I could die of embarrassment.
Thought that was the end of it until the next morning when I walked into my college class and saw him sitting in the front row. He just smirked and said, ’Gonna throw your notes at me too, or just coffee?’ We’ve been together seven years now.
  • “He posted a rage bait comment on a dumb meme on Instagram, and I called him out for that. We argued over it for a little bit, then we somehow started chatting in the comment section and the conversation became long, so we decided to keep talking by DMs.
We ended up talking the whole night, we basically told each other most of our lives, our deepest traumas and dreams in that first conversation. We are not the kind of people that trust easily, but somehow it felt like we could trust each other so deeply from the beginning.
We started a long distance relationship after two weeks, got engaged 4 months later and married 10 months after we met. We’ve been married a bit longer than two years, and now we’re living together in his country. Life is good.” ImmigrationJourney2 / Reddit
  • My friends and I used to leave silly messages on the backs of random receipts and drop them around town for fun. One day, I wrote, ’Hey, if you’re cute, text me’ as a joke. Forgot about it completely, until a week later I got a text saying, ’Well, I think I’m cute. Let’s have dinner.’
I thought it was a prank, but nope. He found the receipt, and now he’s my fiancé.

It’s easy to love when everything is smooth, but real relationships are tested when challenges arise, and these stories are just proving it.
