Oh I still listen to Nelly's 'I'm Like a Bird' these days.
How 13 Singers Who Rocked the Dance Floor With Their Songs in the 2000s Have Changed
We rocked the dancefloor, fell in love, felt down, and went out on dates while listening to these songs. We were immensely happy and young back then. That’s why we get this warm feeling inside every time we listen to “Say It Right” by Nelly Furtado, “Femme Like” You by K-Maro, and “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt.
1. James Blunt
The song, “You’re Beautiful,” performed by the British musician, James Blunt, was released in 2004. Millions of girls were inspired by the lyrics and instantly fell in love with this long-haired performer. This song became the main love ballad of the mid-2000s, and the romantic Blunt acquired an army of fans.
Despite the fact that Blunt’s popularity declined a couple of years after his initial hit, today, he still performs, plays the piano, and records beautiful songs. In 2020, Blunt released a touching song called “Monsters,” which is dedicated to the musician’s father who is seriously ill.
2. Geri Halliwell
The former Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell, rocked the dance floor in 2001 with a fresh version of the song, “It’s Raining Men.” The original song was written at the beginning of the 1980s and became a worldwide hit when it was performed by The Weather Girls.
Halliwell breathed new life into an old song and it instantly became famous. As a result, she managed to build the most successful singing career among all the former members of the Spice Girls.
In 2007, Halliwell decided to take a break from singing and try creative writing. But the 50-year-old singer still makes her fans happy by releasing new songs.
3. Darren Hayes
In the late 1990s, the Australian musical duo called Savage Garden was at the peak of its popularity, and its hit “To The Moon and Back” is still in our hearts. In the early 2000s, the band broke up, and the singers decided to go their separate ways.
Darren Hayes began a solo career and he has completely succeeded. His song “Insatiable” is perhaps one of the most soulful love songs of the last 20 years. And it’s impossible to not admire the music video that was released in 2002 and the performer himself.
Now Darren lives a quiet life in Los Angeles and rarely performs. He’s a big fan of Star Wars and just loves his dog, who is almost in every picture on his Instagram.
4. Akon
In 2006, the American singer Akon and Eminem released a song called “Smack That” that quickly became a dancefloor hit.
As for the singer himself, he was at the peak of his career from 2006-2010, and then the rapper took a long break from performing. Judging by Akon’s Instagram account, today he continues to perform, often goes to Senegal, and is involved in the life of his home country.
5. Nelly Furtado
We love the Canadian singer Nelly Furtado for a song called “Say It Right.” Nelly was very famous back in the 2000s and the songs that she performed together with Justin Timberlake and Timbaland like, “Give It To Me” and “Promiscuous” created a lot of buzz and were at the top of many music charts.
Then Nelly Furtado got married and disappeared from public view for some time. Now she’s divorced and performs from time to time.
6. Moby
In 2005, the American DJ and multi-instrumentalist saw the song “Lift Me Up” in his dream and he included it in his music album at the last minute. And the audience loved this song the most.
Now Moby lives in Los Angeles, makes music, and runs a small restaurant and cafe.
7. Usher
Who didn’t sing along to “Yeah!” performed by Usher? This song became a hit and was at the top of many music charts for several weeks.
The singer is in business now. He has his own music label and has launched his own perfume line. He is also a co-owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team and has opened several restaurants.
8. Dido
Dido became famous around the world when Eminem included a verse from her song, “Thank You,” into his hit, “Stan.” Dido also took part in his music video. She described the collaboration like this: “Once, I got the letter of my dreams. They wrote to me, ’We loved your album, and we picked one song as a sample. We hope you won’t be disappointed and will like the final result too.’”
At the end of the millennium, Dido released the melancholy “My Lover’s Gone,” which became a soundtrack to the TV series, The Clone, which was loved by millions of people.
Dido has recently started working on her music again after a long break and released her latest album in 2019.
9. Mustafa Sandal
Mustafa Sandal is one of the most popular Turkish singers in Europe. His most famous singles, “Story” and “All My Life,” were must-play songs at any party.
The latest of Sandal’s albums was released in 2012. Now he lives in Europe and doesn’t perform a lot. He spends time with his family and likes soccer.
10. Mika
This guy with curly hair from Great Britain made us fall in love with his high-pitched voice and an offer to relax and not take anything too seriously. “Relax, Take it Easy” instantly won the hearts of millions of music fans. The first Mika’s album was released in 2007.
Mika came up with a new summer single in July of 2019 and his 5th album was released at the end of the year.
11. 5ive
The British pop-band 5ive was famous in the late 1990s and at the beginning of the 2000s. We remember them thanks to the dance hit “Everybody Get Up” and an alternative version of “We Will Rock You.”
The band broke up in 2001 and 2007, and now they’re down to 3 singers.
12. Daddy Yankee
In 2004 and for a couple of years after, we danced like crazy to the song, “Gasolina,” performed by the Puerto Rican singer, Daddy Yankee. This song was the most popular one in his repertoire until 2017 when he released “Despacito,” which was recorded together with Louis Fonsi.
The singer also released another hit, “Con Calma,” in 2019. Daddy Yankee has had a successful career and continues to release musical hits from time to time.
13. K-Maro
Do you remember the energetic “Femme Like You,” “Crazy,” and “Let’s Go”? If you don’t remember, we suggest taking a look at these music videos right away and feeling a bit nostalgic. Spoiler alert: the first music video with flip phones, that only the cool guys used to have, almost made us cry.
These hits could rock any dancefloor. The Canadian singer and producer with Arab roots, Cyril Kamar, released his last album in 2010. He managed to use the money he earned while these songs were at the top of the charts to start his own music label.
So he works as a music producer now. He also dedicates a lot of time and effort to charity. K-Maro donates a lot of money to people who’ve suffered from natural disasters and to ones who have gotten into difficult situations. He also started a charitable organization to help children.
