Days after her Oscar win, Jamie Lee Curtis still appears moved and overwhelmed by all the emotions that came with her victory. The actress is ecstatic about this professional accomplishment and has shared her joy with her loved ones, particularly her family. Therefore, in honor of her trans daughter, Ruby, Curtis gave her Oscar they/them pronouns and involved people of all types in her win.

When Curtis took the stage to get her Oscar, she wasn’t only speaking for herself and the character she performed in Everything, Everywhere, At Once. The celebrity emphasized that her family, fans, and coworkers deserve credit for winning that award. “I know it looks like I’m standing up here by myself, but I am not. I am hundreds of people,” she said.

She continued, “To all the people who have supported the genre of movies that I have made for all these years, the thousands and hundreds of thousands of people, we just won an Oscar together.” Indeed, Curtis stood on that podium, speaking for all types of individuals, making them feel as if they were represented in that award.

Following her victory and reflecting on everything, Curtis took the opportunity to thank her community again, paying special homage to a cause she is passionate about. Indeed, in an interview with reporters, Curtis supported the movement to de-gender acting categories.

As the mother of a trans daughter, I completely understand,” Curtis responded to the query on the gender division of the Best Actor and Best Actress categories. “And yet, to de-gender the category, also, I’m concerned [that] will diminish the opportunities for more women, which is something I also have been working hard to try to promote. So it’s a complicated question, but I think the most important thing is inclusivity and more women.”

Thus, Curtis also acknowledged retaining possibilities for women while broadening categories to accommodate the entire gender range.

“Obviously, I would like to see a lot more women be nominated so that there’s gender parity in all the areas and all the branches, and I think we’re getting there,” she claimed. “We’re not anywhere near there. And, of course, the inclusivity then involves the bigger question, which is, how do you include everyone when there are binary choices, which is very difficult.”

Curtis has always fought for equality and fervently supported drawing attention to human rights issues. This is partly due to her character and the fact that she has moved on from intimate matters involving her loved ones. Ruby Guest, her daughter, is transgender and came out in 2020.

Ruby was initially anxious about coming out, saying, “It was intimidating, but I wasn’t worried. They had been so accepting of me my entire life.” Curis, who had always been a dedicated mother to her, didn’t hesitate to accept all of her daughter’s decisions and viewpoints.

Indeed, Curtis happily welcomed her daughter’s transformation and said, “I watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter, Ruby.”

The celebrity has embraced Ruby’s decision, supporting her and gaining new knowledge daily. “It’s speaking a new language. It’s learning new terminology and words. I am new at it. I am not someone who is pretending to know much about it. And I’m going to blow it, I’m going to make mistakes. I would like to avoid making big mistakes.”

She paid special respect to Ruby with her Oscar statuette.

Less than 2 days after winning her first Oscar, Curtis was still visibly emotional and touched while interviewed. Lifting the golden statuette next to her face, she claimed, “Here they are! In support of my daughter Ruby, I’m having them be they/them.”

“They are doing great and settling in,” Curtis remarked, alluding to her statuette. “In my life, I never thought in a million years that I would have these couple of days, and I’m very moved by the whole thing.”
