You never know which bonds will last a lifetime. Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta could’ve ended up being just co-workers, but they remained friends for over 40 years and shared incredible memories together. From working on 3 projects to reaching out to each other during all life’s ups and downs, we can’t help but smile that fate brought them together.

Bright Side wants to share their friendship story as a way to honor late Olivia Newton-John. John Travolta also posted a touching tribute that is quite positive, just like Olivia’s approach to life.

Grease is a musical romantic comedy that became the highest grossing musical movie ever at the time of its release. It featured Olivia Newton-John as Sandy and John Travolta as Danny. It was first released in 1978, and for over 40 years since meeting for the first time on set, the two lead actors remained close friends.

Grease changed both of their lives and tied them together for life.

Both Newton-John and Travolta were in their 20’s while filming the movie, and they carried their bond for decades. Olivia said that the movie was “life-changing,” and John noted the huge success that the movie has seen, which couldn’t be exceeded by anything else, was the reason for them to stay in touch.

John Travolta described her as a “quite a spectacular human being” who is “worthy of a good friendship.”

John Travolta called their lives “full of shared memories.”

The couple reunited on-screen for the movie Two of a Kind, which did not see much success. Nearly 3 decades later, they reunited to work together again, only this time on a music album. Their joint album was released in 2012, and benefitted charity foundations: Olivia’s cancer foundation and John’s foundation for children with special needs.

Besides working together, John Travolta noted that the two of them have been there for each other for a long time. He said that Olivia “has been through my getting married, having children” and he was there for her when she had a child, got divorced, and was mourning a loss in her family.

She also noted that John Travolta always reached out to her during tough times.

In 2019, they dressed up as Danny and Sandy again.

For one of the events, the duo decided to reprise the roles of their iconic characters just for the evening and dressed up as them. Travolta said that it was “the highlight of their lives” to see that people still enjoy the movie 40 years later. He once again noted that their bond never withered, and told the interviewers: “We love each other, and when you love each other, you stay in touch.”

Olivia Newton-John battled cancer 3 times, but remained positive.

Olivia beat cancer 2 times in her life, and got it for the third time in 2019. She was always positive about her condition, and never let anything get to her. She kept believing that there is “good in every situation.”

Her positive attitude was also noted by John Travolta: he called her a “survivor” and said that there is “a lot of life in her.” That year, he got asked about her condition, and he replied that she is doing great and is always looking at the life like “the glass is half-full.”

She sadly passed away at age 73, and John Travolta posted his tribute.

After a few hours of the news about her death breaking out, John Travolta took to Instagram to express his mourning.

He wrote a touching post with the caption: “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever!”

He signed it off with “Your Danny, your John!”.

Did you watch Grease? Can you share your story about your life-long friend?
