Keke Palmer Opens Up About Unhealthy Relationship and Brutal Custody Battle With Her Ex Boyfriend
In a recent episode of her podcast, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, the actress has opened up about the lessons she gained from her breakup with ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson, emphasizing the impact of toxic relationships. The ex-couple initiated their relationship in 2021. In February 2023, they welcomed their baby boy named Leo.
Palmer, 30, praised her parents for modeling healthy relationships, but her perception shifted as she was shocked by how men treat their wives and women outside of her household.
Reflecting on her upbringing, she said, “I’ve been naive because my dad is great and my uncles are great, so misogyny came at me hard and quick. When I entered outside of my household and saw that everybody doesn’t really respect their wives or even women in the way that my dad respects my mom, it was a pretty rude awakening.”
Palmer was granted temporary sole custody of her 8-month-old son and a temporary restraining order against her ex-boyfriend and father of her son.
Addressing her recent experience, Palmer discussed the self-doubt that often follows after ending an unhealthy relationship. She asked, “Am I the bad one?” But Pinsky, the guest of the podcast, reassured her, stating that those who engage in self-reflection after a breakup are rarely the ones at fault.
In court documents, Keke also described disturbing comments that her ex made about their son. It made her worry about Leo’s safety.
At that point of her life, Palmer expressed her commitment to choosing herself, “I choose happiness and I choose joy, and I don’t choose to go back there. As time goes on, I’m like, I’m good. Whatever that was, I’m good.”
