The replacement for Henry Cavill as Superman has officially been found! After a long search, which left behind names such as X-Men’s Nicholas Hoult, the director of the upcoming movie Superman: Legacy has chosen someone flying under most fans’ radar.

David Corenswet, an American actor who starred in the Netflix series The Politician, will play the part of Clark Kent/Superman and debut as the adored superhero in Superman: Legacy. The film, directed by James Gunn, is set to be released on July 11, 2025.

This will be the third actor to take on the role on the big screen. Corenswet follows Christopher Reeve, who first played Superman in 1978, Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill, who was fired in late 2022 after being Superman for a decade, much to the heartbreak of the fans of the hero.

Corenswet had to beat others who had joined the quest to become DC’s most popular hero to get the role. Among the actors who he surpassed are Tom Brittney and Andrew Richardson, as well as Nicholas Hoult, who got to the last stage of the audition process. James Gunn, who chose to re-cast the character because he wanted someone younger to play the hero, seems to have gone with one of the youngest options from the list, as Corenswet is only 29 years old.

The actress who will play Lois Lane has also been announced.

Corenswet’s Superman will also have a new love interest. Rachel Brosnahan, known for her starring role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, for which she won an Emmy and a Golden Globe, will portray Lois Lane. Actresses Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor were strong contenders, but Brosnahan ultimately won the race for the coveted role.

James Gunn has since publicly stood by his choices. “They are both incredible actors and wonderful people,” the director wrote on Twitter.

Harry Potter characters will also soon be played by different actors, given the future release of an HBO TV series. Although no official announcements have been made regarding the new cast, there are strong rumors about who will play the famous magical trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione.
