Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Resigned From Their Royal Duties
Queen Elizabeth’s grandson, Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan Markle shocked everyone with their recent decision. Their Instagram post from the 8th of January announced their step back from their royal duties. The whole world is left pondering why they made this decision and what kind of future they see for themselves.
We at Bright Side wish this couple all the best and want to dig a bit deeper into why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had to make this decision.
The senior members of the Royal Family are stepping back their royal duties and will no longer live in the palace. That’s the message that they wrote on their Instagram page on the 8th of January, 2020. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are going to spend equal time in Great Britain and North America from now on. Before her marriage, Meghan Markle was living in Canada.
Their post says the following, “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honor our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.”
The rest of the post said, “This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge, and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”
It seems the decision that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made was well-thought-out and balanced. The couple wants to raise their child while preserving royal traditions and focusing on their future charity activity, noting that they also want financial independence.
At the same time, the Queen seems to have been disappointed with such an outcome, because the couple didn’t consult anyone before making this statement and decision in general. In her Christmas speech, the Queen didn’t mention Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (only the birth of her great-grandson) and their photo couldn’t be seen among the other family photos on her table.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t attend the Christmas dinner in the palace and instead spent their vacation in Canada with Meghan’s mother.
Perhaps one of the reasons why Harry and Meghan came to this decision is their unhappiness with their public roles, as well as the level of scrutiny they have faced. In one of their interviews with ITV News, Meghan confessed that even though she expected some kind of attention from the media, she still didn’t think it would be so hard.
Making any decision requires a certain amount of bravery and we are happy that the “ex” senior royals could do that. We support them in their endeavors and wish them all the best.
What was the biggest decision you ever made in your life? We would be glad to hear from you in the comments!

It seems like a big deal now but if you look at the future, we know that William and Kate and their children are going to be the main stars of the royal family. So it's good that Harry and Meghan are taking the initiative to step back as early as now.
It's too bad they didn't make this decision before the Queen spent millions on their wedding and millions more remodeling Frogmore Cottage for them. I wonder how Meghan feels being today's "Wallace Simpson"? And Harry just as weak as his great uncle

I feel that Markle is having a hard time adjusting to that kind of life in monarchy with so many activities, duties, events, charities, traditions, etc they have to be involved in. It’s easier to run away and blame the press, media and racism. She wants to be in a place where she’s comfortable, and chose Canada with her mother. She always looked like she has severe inferiority complex. Well, glad she made a choice to leave and find comfort where she feels comfortable. And Harry’s just stuck with her.
