Elder sister, should I be proud ??♀️
Why Your Older Sister Is One of the Most Important People in Your Life
If you have an older sister, you can hide behind her when you get into trouble, make her do your chores, and even borrow her clothes (without telling her, obviously), but there’s more you need to thank her for. According to psychologists, having a sister improves your mental stability and overall development. Children who grow up with sisters around them are happier and become better-adjusted adults.
Bright Side believes that having an older sister is truly a blessing which helps you in many ways and in every part of your life. Here’s how:
1. She lowers your chance of getting a divorce in the future.
A study from Ohio State University found evidence that children with siblings had a lower chance of getting a divorce in the future. One aspect of this surprising discovery is that having a sister makes you a more mature and less self-centered adult. Your early childhood experiences have a huge impact on your development as an adult. Kids with siblings need to learn how to share and deal with conflicts very early on, so this upbringing is very relevant when dealing with a romantic partner. Having a big sis as your friend growing up has a profound impact on every area of your life.
2. She’s the reason why your parents are more lenient toward you.
If you think growing up was hard for you, believe it or not, it was way harder for your sister. A study has found that parents are much more strict and harsh toward their firstborns when compared to the rest of the siblings. First-time parents are all about rules and too many expectations, but they are reduced when another child is born and gradually, they get more lenient. So, if you have an older sister, that’s another reason you need to be grateful to her.
3. She cheers you on and helps you achieve your goals.
She has a lot of things to teach you that you haven’t experienced yet. You’ll always have an ally and someone to look up to. She inspires you to be better and to strive toward your goals. Growing up with sisters makes you more ambitious and independent. It’s a normal process for the younger ones to imitate their older siblings as part of their social and cognitive development. Even if you’re not aware, your big sister is fundamental in shaping your personality.
4. She improves your mental health by being there for you.
According to science, growing up with sisters reduces negative feelings in young teenagers. You’re less likely to feel lonely, guilty, and unloved. Sibling affection is super important in emotional development and can help curb depression. It has also been found that having a sister makes you a kinder, more empathetic person.
5. She helps you discover the meaning of unconditional love.
She is someone who always has your back. Even as you grow older, that bond will continue to be of the utmost importance in your overall well-being and the longer-lasting relationship you will have in your lifetime. You always have support from her and someone to talk to. That makes you feel loved and cherished, and also it teaches you how to better communicate your feelings. You’ll always be more comfortable sharing something with her than with your parents, and she’ll certainly be a better listener.
Most of all, you will always have a ride-or-die best friend, someone that knows you so intimately that she can tell what you’re thinking just by looking at you. That is the most precious gift and something to cherish every day. You are so fortunate to have a big sister who loves you.

Yes as the oldest sister you have 2 take care of the younge ones at all costs.
I absolutely adore my little sister! We are 13 years apart so when I was feeling down as a teen I played with her to cheer me up. When she was a teen I was always at the sporting events and cheering her on! I'm so proud of what my little sister grew up to be.
Xoxo shout out to all the sisters out there!
Its good to have 13 years difference but when it comes to 6 years, life turns upside down
Yes no one can understand younger sister better than the elder one.she perfectly knows what she likes.
Love u dear
?
I have an older sister. All she's done is make my life miserable. She was almost the main reason why I was suicidal. I am now dependent on only myself, only ever going to my parents for help very rarely because she broke my trust and now I find it nearly impossible to trust others even remotely. I wish I was an only child.
As the older sister I couldn’t agree more! I wish I had me for an older sister!!!
I love my older sis. She has been my rock. And I am her rock. It works both ways in our family. I took the blame for her too to save her butt before as a kid. We are there for each other and yes she has been there to protect me, many times. I now have only her left in my family. I need her to always be there till out dying days. We are far apart in distance, but very close in heart. If any thing happens to me , she is always there. I am blessed to have a big sis. She has never.. ever ..made me feel less important as a sister than her. My sister is and always will be part of my life and my heart. I love you Shelly..
this is a good article, but it's not very diverse. where are the brown people? only whyte folks have sisters? here are my big sister's thoughts on the matter: "Much of what is written about in this article is true. Too bad that Bright Side didn’t show a more diverse sampling of sisters. A big sister’s cultural background and experience of racism and white supremacy can also help her little sister prepare for and deal with the society that awaits her as she steps into adulthood in a racist, sexist society. I’m jus’ sayin’..."
She’s tough and makes you see how great you are through out life. Big sisters blood or not are the best you could ever have asked for I love mine Cheri Eather and Cynthia ❤️
Where can i get a younger sister like youuu!???
Love y’all
Completely agree ???
This article is only correct in certain situations, not everyone’s oler sister/sisters are good influences. Also, the influence only works if they younger siblings actually listen and interact with an open mind.
