You May Want to Try These Tricks From Kate Middleton to Calm Down Your Kids’ Tantrums

Calming down a crying and distressed child is never easy, and it must be even harder when you’re a mother who’s being watched and discussed by thousands of people. It looks like Kate Middleton has nailed down parenting in the public eye as she seems to know a couple of parenting secrets that help her keep the kids’ emotions at bay. She’s often admired for her ability to calm down her children during meltdowns in seconds without ever losing her temper.
Here at Bright Side, we’ve taken a closer look at how Kate Middleton deals with her kids’ tantrums, and here are 3 clever tricks from the duchess that you can try with your own kids.
She gives her kids friendly taps on the head.
Kate Middleton is a mother of 3 children: George, Charlotte, and Louis. The duchess and her spouse, William, often take their kids with them when visiting public events, and it’s not surprising that from time to time the kids may get tired or upset and start to cry. So, what is it that Kate does to calm down these royal children?
If you look through pictures of Kate with her kids, you can find photos of her touching their heads, like in the photos we’ve posted above and below. This is one of the ways she calms them down and gets them to behave. “She seems to be good at making warm contact ‘touch to the head’ which is a nice connection,” said Dr. Rebecca Chicot, a child development and parenting expert, in her interview to The Sun.
She bends down to talk to her kids at eye level.
Whenever you want to interact with your child, including times when you want to calm them down, it’s a good idea to get down to their eye level. According to experts, it can make your interaction more productive, helping your child feel like you’re there for them, paying attention, and ready to listen. When you and your child are on the same level, it helps them feel more connected to you and more protected.
She lets her kids take breaks and diverts their attention.
When her kids are acting up, Kate tries to divert their attention from whatever is upsetting or frustrating them to something else or suggests taking a break and doing something like reading a book or putting together a puzzle. The duchess also makes sure that her children spend enough time out in nature.
The royal mom believes that being close to nature is good for kids’ physical and mental health. Kate is sure that enjoying simple things, like going for a walk together with the kids, is crucial for the parent-child bond. “I remember that from my childhood — doing the simple things, going for a walk together, and that’s really what I try and do with my children as well because it totally strips away all the complications, all the pressures,” she said in one of her interviews.
