Bruce Willis’ Family Announces He’s Been Diagnosed With Dementia

year ago

Bruce Willis’ ex-wife, Demi Moore, and current spouse, Emma Heming, along with Bruce’s 3 adult daughters, came together in a remarkable display of solidarity. The die-hard support system proudly branded themselves the “Ladies of Willis/Moore” to share the news of their cherished husband and father’s latest medical challenge in a joint announcement. And we all hope that this supportive network can make a significant difference in improving the actor’s quality of life.

According to the announcement, the 67-year-old Hollywood star has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Less than a year ago, Willis had stepped away from the career that has meant so much to him due to aphasia, a brain disorder that caused his language abilities to decline.

The loving family also stated that his condition has advanced. The disease targets the lobes of the brain located behind the forehead, which regulate emotions, behavior, problem-solving, and planning. Some of the signs of FTD include personality shifts, obsessional behavior, and difficulty speaking. And while the news was very painful to hear, it was a relief for them to finally have a clear diagnosis.

“Bruce always believed in using his voice in the world to help others, and to raise awareness about important issues both publicly and privately,” they said in their post. They also intended, via their announcement, to shed light on the disease, stating that for people under 60, FTD is the most common form of dementia and that, even now, there is no treatment for it.

“As Bruce’s condition advances, we hope that any media attention can be focused on shining a light on this disease that needs far more awareness and research,” the ladies added.
