Hollywood’s Most Famous Bachelor, George Clooney, Met Future Wife Amal in Fateful Twist at His Own Home
Amal Alamuddin entered George Clooney’s life like a fabulous hurricane and changed everything in less than a year. This is the story of a notorious bachelor, who discovered love wasn’t done with him and finally found the happiness he’d previously given up on.
We at Bright Side love when destiny takes charge, and George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are the perfect example.
George Clooney swore off marriage before meeting Amal.
Many might not remember this, but George Clooney was married earlier in his life. His first wife was actress Talia Balsam and they stayed together from 1989 until 1993. That was it for Clooney’s role as a husband for the next 2 decades. The actor was so convinced that he’d stay single for the rest of his life, he actually made a bet with Michelle Pfeiffer for $100,000. Pfeiffer was convinced that love wasn’t done with George, and she was right.
Fate brought Amal directly to George’s doorstep.
In July 2013, luck decided to stop by Clooney’s lake house in Italy and change his life forever. The Hollywood star vividly remembers how Amal, who he didn’t even know at the time, ended up at his place: “It was the wildest thing, a mutual friend of ours said, ’I’m stopping by and can I bring a friend?’ And I was like, ’Of course.’ And I got a call from my agent who said, ’I met this woman who’s coming to your house who you’re going to marry.’”
George didn’t even need to leave his house to meet the love of his life. Moreover, his parents were also there, so the stars aligned perfectly that day: “And the funniest thing was that my mom and dad were visiting, so my parents were there and we just talked, and we stayed up all night talking.” Clooney and Alamuddin ended up exchanging emails and promised to stay in touch.
Clooney was ready to pop the question in a matter of months.
George and Amal continued talking for the next several months after their first meeting, but it was their encounter in London that took things to the next level. Clooney went there for a movie premiere in October 2013 and ended up taking Alamuddin out on a date. According to George, “things escalated once I was in London,” and he stayed there with Amal for 6 weeks.
They instantly became inseparable and went on numerous romantic trips however their demanding jobs would allow for it: “We spent Christmas together in Cabo San Lucas. Then we went on a safari in Kenya. Amal loves giraffes, they’re her favorite animal.”
By April 2014, George’s heart was set on Amal and he decided to propose. The romantic in him was thriving that night as Clooney cooked dinner for his beloved, put on a playlist to set the mood, and was ready to surprise her. Long story short, his mission was successful. The actor recalled: “It was 20 minutes of me on my knee, waiting for her to say yes, because she was so shocked.” Of course Amal ended up saying the coveted “yes” and the couple married that same year in Venice.
Kids weren’t a priority, but became little blessings in disguise.
George revealed that he’d never thought kids would be a part of his life, and even Amal initially agreed to remain a family of 2. The eventual decision to become parents was born out of their sheer happiness. Clooney said: “After the wedding, Amal and I were talking and we just felt we’d gotten very lucky, both of us, and we should share whatever good luck we’ve got. It would seem self-centered to just have that belong to us.”
Then, on June 6, 2017, George and Amal became parents to 2 beautiful twins: daughter Ella and son Alexander. Clooney takes his job as a father very seriously and is dedicated to raising his kiddos and building them into great human beings: “You are really responsible for 2 kids. I want them to be happy. I want them to have a sense of humor. I want them to be interested in things. I want them to be compassionate about other people’s plights.”
George’s family is now the main purpose of his life.
With Amal’s arrival into his life, Clooney finally felt complete. She changed his entire belief system and he wouldn’t have it any other way. George’s entire being now revolves around their children and he’s very appreciative of everything he has: “It’s very odd and I have to say, before I had the twins, I felt that about her. I felt that I met someone who I would absolutely trade my life for, you know. I met someone that her life meant more to me than my life and I never had that experience before.”
In the end, all Clooney needed was an extraordinary woman to restore his faith in marriage and family. Do you think that for every notorious bachelor there’s a woman that can change him?
