12 Halloween Crochet Trends and Designs Crafters Are Creating Nonstop at Home This October 2026

Fall has a way of pulling people back to the hook and yarn, and this year Halloween is driving that pull harder than usual, with plenty of cozy patterns to make at home before the season’s over. A study accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed journal Psychological Science, covered by the Association for Psychological Science, found that a controlled dose of fear triggers a genuine physiological “sweet spot,” measurable through heart rate, right where enjoyment peaks.
Crocheters seem to have found their own version of it for this October, working through spooky patterns, cozy Halloween cardigans and sweaters, full blankets in classic orange and black yarn, and genuinely eerie amigurumi. With less than a month to go, yarn stashes everywhere are already overflowing. Here are 12 of the patterns and trends filling hooks and project bags right now.
“Crocheted my daughter’s first Halloween costume.”
“My work had our Halloween party, and I went as Rapunzel. Instead of buying a bunch of decorative flowers, I crocheted every single flower.”
“Started this project last year and didn’t quite finish it in time for Halloween, so I made sure I finished it in time for Halloween this year.”
“Finished just in time for Halloween. Been working on this since August and it’s definitely one of my favorite holiday/seasonal projects thus far. It’s also super comfy.”
“Grandma is proud of her Halloween C2C graphgan. I am too!”
“Happy Halloween from my Halloween hexagon cardigan.”
“My daughter wants to be a witch for Halloween. It was the perfect excuse to finally try my hand at the twisted witch hat. I’m in love.”
“Halloween throw pillows! My first time trying mosaic crocheting. They turned out awesome.”
“This is a strawberry shortcake Halloween costume I made for my niece.”
“My little boy was obsessed with Beetlejuice a few years back so that was his Halloween costume and my wife decided to crochet a sandworm costume to go along with it.”
“I started this last September but ended up not finishing it by Halloween and had to take a break for Christmas presents. Finally got it done as my first project of the year.”
“My daughter’s Halloween costume, second year I crochet one. Peacock. Crochet top, pill box hat and feathers, some sewing involved in this one and a lot of creativity.”
A reader shared a story with us.
My mom crocheted me a pumpkin costume. I screamed at her, “This looks cheap!” and refused to wear it. I wore a store bought costume and had the worst Halloween of my life. This year she’s gone. I found that pumpkin costume today and cried because inside the pocket was the receipt for the store-bought one, still folded up small, the exact one I made her buy instead.
Thirty years and she never once brought it up. Showed my sister, expecting her to understand why I was a wreck over it. She just said, “Why does it matter now? You can’t apologize to a receipt.” Maybe she’s right. I still can’t put it down and I miss my mom.
