What that person who "saved" the mockingbird doesn't realise is that birds will reject any chick that has the smell of human on it. They essentially sentenced that bird to death as soon as they touched it.
That's a total myth. Most birds don't really have much sense of smell, and they really don't care if a human has been there, as long as the human is gone.
Not true. Most birds don't even have a good sense of smell. The smell of humans certainly won't scare them off - urban/suburban birds are around things humans touch all the time. This is an urban myth, invented to stop people, especially children, from unnecessary handling of baby birds which are fragile and easily stressed.
Fortunately that's a myth
