For some, age is just a number in your head. And these celebrities prove it by doing things that surprise their fans. Like going to space, at the age of 90 or taking on a strenuous action role aged 67. While aging is inevitable, they prove that it does not have to hold you back.

Bright Side adores these celebrities who show us that aging can be graceful but definitely not limiting. Here are some inspirational tidbits from their lives.

1. Helen Mirren

76-year-old Dame Helen Mirren will soon be seen in DC’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but then again, she’s no stranger to action roles. She was seen in Red, with the likes of Bruce Willis as a total action star, and managed it all at age 67.

2. Julie Andrews

Julie Andrews was iconic in her role of Maria in the classic musical, The Sound of Music. And then later, she was Mary Poppins as well. And now, at age 86, she voices the role of Lady Whistledown, in Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton. The magic of her voice is alive and well.

3. Morgan Freeman

Morgan Freeman’s voice makes him a crowd favorite for narration and voice acting. Despite a 2008 automobile accident that left him with fibromyalgia, Freeman is not slowing down at 84 years old. He’s continuing to do movies, is an environmental activist, and even converted his 124-acre ranch into a bee farm.

4. Tina Turner

Despite a tumultuous marriage that left her with depression, Tina Turner battled it out and emerged the winner, going on to give many musical hits in her career. In 2020, she came out of retirement to work on a new song with Kygo, “What’s Love Got To Do With It”. The 81-year-old is a successful author as well.

5. Al Pacino

At 81, Al Pacino is still acting with the same zeal he had when he first burst onto the screen. And in 2020, he even returned to television with the series, Hunters. He has movies lined up and has not let age or his mental health slow him down at all.

6. Jane Fonda

From becoming an aerobic instructor to walking the runway at Paris Fashion Week decades later, this woman is unstoppable. Jane Fonda is 83 now, and even today is an active environmentalist as well as an author. Her last movie, the 2018-released Book Club, also won rave reviews and was a box office success as well. Fonda is active on social media and had her own blog, plus she’s a philanthropist too. Also, she just made the cover of Vogue in Poland.

She says, “The fact that I’m still alive and working, wow, who cares if I don’t have my old joints?”

7. William Shatner

William Shatner, at age 90, turned his most famous role into reality. He went into space aboard Blue Origin’s New Shephard spacecraft, and reprised his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the classic series Star Trek, for real.

8. Judi Dench

Dame Judi Dench, age 86, is a force to be reckoned with. Her first professional appearance was in 1957, and she’s been a constant on the stage and in the movies since then. In May 2020, she became the oldest person to appear on the cover of British Vogue and is continuing to do movies with gumption.

9. Maggie Smith

Dame Maggie Smith aka Professor Minerva McGonagall from the Harry Potter franchise is 86 now, and still as active as ever. Her recent role as a matriarch in the series and movie, Downtown Abbey has gone down well with the audience, and she has more movies coming up. In 2019, she even returned to the theatre after an 11-year absence.

10. Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro, 78, is not just an award-winning and acclaimed actor, he is also one of the partners behind TriBeCa films, and the TriBeCa film festival. In 2003, he emerged victorious against cancer as well, and his list of upcoming movies is ever increasing.

11. Robert Redford

From the Sundance Institute to the Sundance Film Festival, Robert Redford’s role as the Sundance Kid took him places. Today, at age 85, he is an activist, an author, an actor as well as a director. Though he said he was retired in 2018, he appeared in a cameo in Avengers: Endgame and regrets the announcement. Because as he says, “You never know.”

12. Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon is still doing movies at age 75, looking far younger than her years. She is also an activist and the recipient of many awards and feels that age is but a number. And she even got over her phobia of public singing recently.

13. Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone is the true story of the underdog. When he wrote the screenplay of Rocky, he was completely out of money, and then fortunes shined and he turned into a superstar. Even now, he’s still very much the action movie star, at age 75, with his hit franchise The Expendables.

Harrison Ford first played Indiana Jones in 1981. Now, 40 years later, he is still playing the same debonair role, despite a recent injury. And when he’s not acting, the 79-year-old has assisted in several rescue missions as a licensed pilot. And he’s an environmentalist as well.

15. Michael Caine

88-year-old Sir Michael Caine recently announced his retirement from acting. And then promptly took it back, showing that even his advancing years cannot quell his passion for his work. He’s also an accomplished author.

16. Candice Bergen

Candice Bergen, 75, is still as spry as ever as an actor and an activist, even if she began her professional life as a model. Upcoming movies aside, she hand paints her line of Bergen Bags, the proceeds of which go to charity.

Clint Eastwood is 91 and not only still continues to act but also directs, proving that age is merely a number in your head. He loves music and once even tried to make it big in the music industry. Unlike other actors his age, for now, he has no plan of retiring.

Anyone who follows Goldie Hawn on social media knows that despite being 75, she’s still one active dancer and happy to put on a show. While she’s not very active on screen any more, except for Christmas movies with partner Kurt Russell, she runs a non-profit organization called Hawn Foundation which helps the underprivileged students in academics. She also has another venture called MindUP that focuses on younger children.

19. Ian McKellen

82-year-old Ian McKellen, best known for his roles in the recent film franchise of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, started acting in 1958 and has been active ever since. He’s also quite the LGBTQ+ icon, having come out as gay years ago. He’s also back on stage and receiving rave reviews for his performance.

20. Sophia Loren

Sophia Loren, 88, has been hailed as one of the greatest actresses of all times. And in 2020, she appeared in another movie, The Life Ahead, after an 11-year break from the screen. The last surviving star from the Golden Age of Hollywood, she’s rightly called a treasure by all.
