9 Movie Siblings Who Had a Relationship in Real Life
In almost every series or movie, you can find a couple of siblings either as protagonists or as secondary characters. Some stories are even defined by their good (and in many other cases, bad) relationships. There are times in which they can even be worst enemies, but as soon as the camera stops rolling, things behind the scenes turn out to be very different. Warning: this might be potentially upsetting for viewers and fans, but guess what? Sometimes, these fictional siblings end up having a great relationship in the real world.
So with that in mind, Bright Side put together a compilation of all those actors who left their fictional family bonds on set and ended up being more than just friends.
1. Blake Lively and Penn Badgley
In 2007, we saw Blake Lively and Penn Badgley play Serena and Dan, both of whom were part of the group of friends that starred in Gossip Girl. In the series, they were not only a couple, but also step-siblings since her mom and his dad got married after they were born. However, before that, they had already been involved.
But that didn’t stop the characters from moving forward with their relationship since eventually, they walked down the aisle. Needless to say, working together wasn’t a problem for the actors either. In fact, they were dating back in 2007 until 2010. Although their romance began and ended during the years in which Gossip Girl was shot, this did not affect the series whatsoever since they both managed to keep things very professional on set.
2. Emily VanCamp and Chris Pratt
VanCamp and Pratt played siblings, Bright and Amy Abbott, 2 locals from the city of Everwood in the series of the same name. Despite them being related in the story, they started a romantic relationship in 2004. And although some viewers found it strange to know that the siblings on the show were a couple in real life, the actors decided to carry on, regardless of what the rest of the world had to say about it. While it seemed like they had all the odds against them, they actually led a happy relationship for about 3 years.
3. Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz
The Twilight saga is not only full of action and romance, but also of actors who ended up sharing more than just a strong bond. But don’t be fooled! You might think we’re referring to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who were dating for several years, but actually, there’s another almost-couple that came out of the very same saga: Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz, who played the siblings Alice and Emmett Cullen.
Although the ex-vampires were never a couple, they became best friends. In fact, Lutz even suggested that the 2 of them should move to New York to share an apartment there as roomates.
4. Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley
The highly acclaimed series that became iconic in the nineties to teenagers all around the globe has also blossomed some real-life romances. Beverly Hills, 90210, which portrayed the lives of a group of teenagers in Southern California, starred Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley. These actors played Brenda and Brandon Walsh, a pair of twins who had a brief romantic relationship off-camera.
But things ended badly when she was taken off the series because of her behavior and the problems she seemingly had with the rest of the crew. Priestley didn’t hesitate to define her as “a diva and a spoiled child” in his autobiography, Jason Priestley: A Memoir.
5. Jamie Campbell Bower and Lily Collins
In The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Clary (Lily Collins) enters the strange world of shadows when she meets Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower), a shadow hunter with whom she will have an affair before discovering that he is her brother (or more like step-brother). Still, their love managed to spread beyond the screen, and in 2013, they started dating in real life. They eventually broke up, but in 2015, they got back together only to break up again in 2018.
6. Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill
Even if you haven’t seen the Star Wars movies, you probably know who Luke (Mark Hamill) and Leia (Carrie Fisher) are, the twin siblings who grew up on different planets and teamed up to end the rule of the Galactic Empire in one of the most famous sagas in the history of cinema. But beyond this fraternal bond, Hamill confessed that, during the shooting of the first film, they both were attracted to each other and even had a sort of flirtatious friendship.
7. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter
On the TV show, Dexter, we were introduced to the Morgan half-siblings: 2 officers from the Miami Police Department in charge of solving the toughest cases. But far from being bound together by the same father in the series, the protagonists, Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter, had a relationship in real life. They actually got married on December 31, 2008, but unfortunately split up 2 years later.
8. Ian Somerhalder and Maggie Grace
In Lost, plane crash survivors are stranded on a deserted island, supposedly located in the South Pacific. Among the survivors were step-siblings, Boone Carlyle (Ian Somerhalder) and Shannon Rutherford (Maggie Grace). Of course, after spending so much time together on set, it’s not hard to understand why sparks eventually led this pair to start a romantic relationship in 2006. Although they broke up the following year, the actress said that they remained very good friends.
9. Selena Gomez and David Henrie
Wizards of Waverly Place shows the adventures of the Russos, a family who owns a restaurant in New York. Everything seemed normal, except for the fact that they were gifted with magic skills. Alex (Selena Gomez), Justin (David Henrie), and Max’s (Jake T. Austin) father, Jerry, is the one who’s in charge of teaching them how to master their magic powers. But after their training is complete, only one of them gets to keep their powers. The series shows how they compete against each other to become the sole wizard in the family.
You can only imagine that the tension between Alex and Justin could be felt throughout the series, but in real life, these actors actually had an excellent friendship and have even been known to have held a romantic relationship, although they’ve never confirmed that rumor.
