“The Last of Us” Star Bella Ramsey Revealed She Was Made Fun of for the Way She Looks

Bella Ramsey, the non-binary actress, is best known for her role as Ellie Williams in the game adaptation series The Last of Us. Even though Bella, 19, has proven that she is a talented actress with an undeniable on-screen presence, she had and still has to overcome significant challenges and barriers in the acting industry.

She appeared on-screen for the first time in Game of Thrones.

Bella Ramsey burst onto the professional acting scene with a captivating performance as the fierce young noblewoman Lyanna Mormont in the sixth season of the popular HBO series Game of Thrones. Her portrayal quickly endeared her to fans, leading to an invitation to reprise the role for the following 2 seasons. Currently, Bella stars as the lead actress in the role of Ellie Williams opposite Pedro Pascal in the hit series The Last of Us.

Ramsey’s success didn’t come easy, and it’s all because of her looks.

During one of Bella’s earliest auditions as a child, she was told that she did not possess the coveted “Hollywood look.” That’s why, despite receiving praise from the director and delivering a strong performance in her audition, Bella did not ultimately land the role she had tried out for.

Things only got worse when Bella rose to fame.

After the series The Last Of Us started airing, fans of the show made fun of the way Ramsey looked, and everyone was commenting on her “square head.” “You’re looking for a comment that’s more painful than the last one,” she said. “I’d kid myself that I was doing it in jest.”

“I wish I could say that I was confident enough [already] that it hasn’t affected me in any way, but it has,” revealed Ramsey in a candid interview.

Despite the trolling, Bella is proud of her work on The Last of Us.

Her success in the series is not a surprise, as she was cast by series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann after looking at 100 auditions. “What you’re waiting for [in casting] is the person that makes it undeniable, where you’re like, ‘Oh, we’re done. Everything’s okay.’ And that was Bella,” revealed Mazin.

Bella is very proud of herself and the work she has done. “I’m just glad I could do that for them. And for the show. And for Ellie. I want to do her justice,” she said.
