Blake Lively Reveals Why She Skipped the 2023 Met Gala

Blake Lively surprised fans when she revealed that she was skipping the 2023 Met Gala. Instead of showing off her usual stunning style, she posted a pic of herself pumping breast milk in a bathroom. It’s not the glitz and glamour we’re used to seeing from her, but her decision to skip the event and share this personal moment with her fans gives us a glimpse into the realities of motherhood.

Her very relatable plans for the Met Gala

Expressing her decision to skip the event this year, Lively told reporters, “You will not [see me on the red carpet]. But I will be watching.” When a reporter complimented her outfit from the previous year’s event, she responded with humor, saying, “Thank you, that’s very sweet. I’ll be wearing that on my couch on Monday.”

She also took to her Instagram to share a snap of herself pumping breast milk in her bathroom, captioning it, “First Monday in May,” which is when the Met Gala is held yearly. Rocking a sweatshirt, she added stickers to make it look like milk was pouring out of her chest.

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively welcomed their fourth baby.

The couple secretly welcomed their baby in February this year and decided to stay home for the same reason. Though it hasn’t been long since the actress gave birth, with a healthy diet and exercise routine, she lost all her baby weight quickly and went back to her usual glamorous self.

Lively usually “owns” the Met Gala with her looks.

The Met Gala is all about drama and extravagance, with a strict no-classic-gowns policy. Lively has been a regular event attendee since 2008 and knows how to bring on the glamour. She’s all about over-the-top gowns with long, dramatic trains.

Last year, for the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” theme of the Met Gala, Lively’s outfit paid homage to some of New York City’s most iconic buildings. Her look was inspired by the Empire State Building and Grand Central Station.

Her gown had a copper-colored skirt that unfurled on the Met steps to reveal a green train, representing the oxidization of the Statue of Liberty over time. Even her Lorraine Schwartz crown was a nod to Lady Liberty!

The Versace dress she wore in 2018 took over 600 hours to bead, and the train was so big she had to take a party bus to get to the venue.

Lively always knows how to make a statement at the Met Gala. We can’t wait to see how she will return next year!
