“It’s Just Not a Challenge Anymore” Ellen Degeneres Just Made Us Teary-Eyed After Announcing the Last Chapter of Her Show

The sensational and talented Ellen DeGeneres has decided to end her show after 19 years of pure commitment and passion. From performing stand-up comedy shows in clubs and coffee houses to becoming a full time host of her own talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen concluded that it may be best for her to turn to the next chapter of her life.

Here at Bright Side, we get soft-hearted when we catch sight of such a brilliant talk show host coming to an end of her career, but we know that after every ending there is a new beginning.

“I’m made for this. I’m a comedian.”

Ellen believes she is a person who was made for comedy. She is quick on her feet, knows how to listen to people, reads the guest well, and is aware of the right time to come up with a joke. She has many things she is proud of — her team is funny, helpful to people, and they all represent acts of kindness together.

She started the show in 2003, back when iPhones and social media didn’t exist. Since then, she watched the world change in so many good and bad ways, but no matter what, her goal was to always bring joy, light, and priceless comedy into people’s lives.

“This has been the best experience of my life.”

The final episode of The Ellen Show will air on May 26th, and Ellen couldn’t be more emotional about it. It was difficult for her to tell her staff and crew, let alone her audiences. Even though she was prepared for all the heartaches, being the host of this show was the best experience of her life, and we all know how hard it can be to let go of something you are so proud of.

Initially, she wanted to end the show after the 16th season, but was asked to go 4 more years to end it at 20. However, instead of 4 years, Ellen asked for 1 more year, but they needed more commitment, so they settled for 3 more years. Although her brother was against the idea of ending the show, her wife, Portia, was rooting for this plan. She wanted Ellen to do things that she’s challenged by and cares about, like the environment and animals.

“I just feel like there’s something more I could be doing. I care about the environment. I care about animals. I care about design and furniture.”

Although comedy has been her chosen career for the most part, she is also passionate about design. Ellen doesn’t want to retire and sit still after the show ends; “I’m like a Ferrari in neutral. I’m constantly needing to go.” One of the things on her wish list is to get cast in a movie or direct it.

Ellen admits she won’t miss hair and makeup days, and having to go through fittings for her show. But she will miss everything and everyone else. Her crew became her family and her best friends, and she laughs every day at work. But when her gut told her it’s time to say goodbye, she trusted it. “My instinct told me it’s time. As a comedian, I’ve always understood the importance of timing.”

“I truly have felt like next season was the right time to end this amazing chapter.”

We can’t all be happy and put a smile on our face every single day. There were times when Ellen wasn’t in a hearts-and-flowers smiley mood in her work environment, and it would sometimes affect her staff.

However, Ellen is a person with a wide range of emotions, she struggled with depression and anxiety, but her intentions were never to put anyone down. She is a kind person and loves to make people happy. If there was something she learned, it was that every single encounter meant something, even if it was only one minute.

“As great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore.”

Ellen has an extremely positive mindset, and doesn’t look at an ending being the finishing line, rather the beginning: “The start of a new chapter.” She hopes to take all her fans with her wherever she ends up, but in case she never does anything else, her successes in the show and what it stands for is something she will forever be grateful for. “When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged.”
