“Squid Game” Is Now the Most-Watched Show Ever, Here’s Why

With over 111 million streams in just 28 days of its release, Squid Game has undoubtedly taken over the world. It’s in memes, it’s in the news, it’s all people can talk about lately and we gotta admit, we are huge fans of the show ourselves!
Bright Side decided to decode why Squid Game is insanely popular right now and here’s what we found.
It helps us deal with real-life anxiety and fear.
It has been found that people who watch survival or post-apocalyptic TV shows/movies, experience less distress in real life. Watching characters make choices and observing the outcomes makes us emotionally stronger. Viewers feel a lot of varied emotions throughout Squid Game, which keeps one hooked until the end.
The thrill of being a spectator is enchanting.
Mimicking the rush of watching a horse race, Squid Game lets the audience be a safe spectator of who’s going to win or lose. According to experts, the show gives the viewers a ’"double perspective," putting us in the shoes of the competitors and the VIPs. We keep going back and forth and before we realize it, the show’s over and we’re rooting for season 2.
Foreign language shows are “in.”
Maybe it’s the curiosity to learn more about other cultures or the desire to move past the cliché Hollywood movies, but foreign shows seem to be popular lately. Lupin, a French series on Netflix crossed 76 million streams in a month, which is more than The Witcher and The Queen’s Gambit.
“The Korean Wave” is real.
In recent years, the popularity of Kpop and Kdramas has shot up. Korean music groups like BTS, Blackpink have been dominating the global charts while the Kmovie, Parasite, bagged itself an Oscar. So, even with little to no publicity for the show internationally, the word about Squid Game has reached all corners of the world, thanks to Kpop fans! The hashtag #squidgame has over 12.9 billion views on TikTok already!
Have you watched Squid Game yet? Do you think it’s worth the hype?
Comments
l've read stories and comments from the actors to the Director of this Show and 1: it's causing all sorts of concerns with kids in Australia emulating the scenes.
2: in an interview with the Director he lost 6 teeth due to the Stress of making this Show as a lot is based on the Violence the South Korean kids went through growing up. Obviously Not the killing part, But a Lot of the Violence in the Organised Games! Parents need to Supervise their kids more closely regarding the Shows their kids are watching and if it is Age Appropriate!
