Getting a princess-like wedding dress is a dream of many girls. The main thing, in this case, is to think through all the details and to not get mistaken with the choice because a wedding is one of the most important events in our lives. But some actresses have the unique chance to try on a wedding gown more than once if they get to play a bride in the movies they star in.

We at Bright Side decided to compare the wedding gowns of famous actresses and their characters. Some of them look as if they were trying to bring their gorgeous cinematic image to life, others astonished us with their unexpected choice.

Marylin (Intolerable Cruelty) — Catherine Zeta-Jones

In the comedy called Intolerable Cruelty, Catherine Zeta-Jones plays a marriage swindler named Marylin. For a wedding with her next rich victim, her character wears a silk dress with a fluffy veil. On the day of her real marriage with the actor, Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones was wearing a dress by Christian Lacroix.

Kay Banks (Father of the Bride) — Elizabeth Taylor

At the age of 18, Elizabeth Taylor got married 2 times in a row: in the movie Father of the Bride and in real life. Both wedding gowns corresponded to the fashion of the ’50s.

Cat Valentine (iCarly) — Ariana Grande

The popular actress and singer was only 17 years old when she played a bride in one of the episodes of the iCarly series. In 2021, Ariana Grande had a real wedding where she was wearing a dress by Vera Wang.

Scarlett O’Hara (Gone With The Wind) — Vivien Leigh

The wedding gown for Scarlett was created by the costume designer Walter Plunkett. According to the plot, the main character hastily marries an unloved man who goes to war, so she takes a dress from her mother which even seems a little too big. At the wedding of Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier, there were only witnesses and hotel owners where the ceremony took place. And the actress was wearing a simple elegant suit.

Mary Fiore (The Wedding Planner) — Jennifer Lopez

According to the plot of the movie The Wedding Planner, wedding planner Mary Fiore marries her boyfriend in a classic dress with three-quarter sleeves. Many people thought this image may have served as inspiration for Meghan Markle’s dress, but the costume designer who worked on the film denies this.

At the beginning of 2001, Jennifer Lopez tied the knot with former dancer and director, Cris Judd. The actress opted for a vintage Valentino dress with transparent sleeves for the ceremony.

Phoebe Halliwell (Charmed) — Alyssa Milano

The adorable witch Phoebe, a character in the Charmed series, married the half-demon, Cole Turner, in a gorgeous dress with an embroidered top that enhanced her body shape. The wedding gown Alyssa Milano wore on her wedding day with Hollywood agent David Bugliari was created by Vera Wang.

Fallon Carrington (Dynasty) — Elizabeth Gillies

A character from the Dynasty series, Fallon, got married for the second time in a classic wedding gown. In her interview, actress Elizabeth Gillies said, “I had worn so many spectacular wedding gowns over the course of 3 years on Dynasty that I always said that I would wear black on my wedding day. But as I got older, I realized my taste is actually very classic and simple.” The actress opted for a strapless dress by Britt Wood Designs for her own wedding.

Margaret Russell (The Good Shepherd) — Angelina Jolie

In the movie The Good Shepherd, Angelina Jolie’s character marries Matt Damon’s character in a classic cream-colored dress in the style of the 1930s. At her wedding with Brad Pitt, the actress wore a gown by Atelier Versace, whose hem was decorated with the drawings of her children.

Juliette (And God Created Woman) — Brigitte Bardot

In the movie And God Created Woman (1956), Bardot played a role that brought world fame to her. The bride’s lace dress in this film was in line with the fashion of those years. Brigitte Bardot’s real wedding took place in 1959 where the actress wore a checkered pink dress created by designer Jacques Esterel.

Penny (The Big Bang Theory) — Kaley Cuoco

Unlike her character who appeared at the altar in an elegant knee-length dress, the star of The Big Bang Theory series opted for a wedding dress with a long hem and veil created by designer Reem Acra.

Gabrielle Solis (Desperate Housewives) — Eva Longoria

The textured wedding dress of the character of the Desperate Housewives series didn’t bring her happiness at the ceremony or in her family life.

It’s curious that the wedding dress in real life was tailored for Eva Longoria by her friend Victoria Beckham “She’s a true designer. She’s lived and breathed fashion her entire life,” the actress shared.

Jo Stockton (Funny Face) — Audrey Hepburn

In the Funny Face movie, the seller from the bookshop, Jo, becomes a model for a glamour magazine and tries on a Givenchy wedding dress, which later became iconic.

Though Audrey Hepburn’s engagement with British businessman James Hanson was canceled, the Zoe Fontana wedding dress that the actress prepared for the wedding became historic. The actress insisted the gown be “worn by another girl for her wedding, perhaps someone who couldn’t ever afford a dress like mine.” In 2009, the dress was bought by a private collector in London who paid £13,800 (more than $19,000) for it.

Isabella (Isn’t It Romantic) — Priyanka Chopra

In the Isn’t It Romantic comedy, Priyanka Chopra’s character named Isabella opted for a classical dress with lace and a long veil. But at the real wedding, which took place in 2018 in Mumbai, the bride’s veil was several times longer — more than 65 feet long, while the dress, created by Ralph Lauren, was hand-embroidered and hand-beaded with Swarovski crystals and mother-of-pearl sequins.

Lorelei Lee (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes) — Marilyn Monroe

The artist girl, Lorelei Lee, from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, opted for a wedding gown that consisted of a lace top with flower print and a tulle skirt.

For her wedding with baseball player Joe DiMaggio, Monroe wore a modest dark suit with a white fur collar.

Melanie Smooter (Sweet Home Alabama) — Reese Witherspoon

A designer from New York, Melanie, was getting ready to marry the man of her dreams even though she was still married to her first husband — this is the plot of the movie Sweet Home Alabama. In real life, Reese Witherspoon got married in 2011. The light pink dress for the actress was made by the brand Monique Lhuillier.

Tracy Lord (High Society) — Grace Kelly

The main character of the High Society movie, Tracy is a girl from a rich family who is going to get married soon. Her airy look was complemented by silk gloves and a hat with a wide brim. As everyone knows, in real life, Grace Kelly became a true princess whose wedding dress still serves as inspiration for many designers.

Angélique (Angélique, marquise des anges) — Michèle Mercier

The main character of the screen version of Angélique, marquise des anges novel, marries Jeoffrey de Peyrac in a dress made of satin and lace. It was created by a costume designer and corresponded to the style of the century. The actress Michèle Mercier, preferred to wear an elegant white suit for her own wedding with racer Claude Bourillot in 1968.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City) — Sarah Jessica Parker

The fairytale wedding dress of Carrie Bradshaw, the character of the cult series Sex and the City and movies of the same name, has remained in the memories of the series’ fans for a long time. For her real wedding in 1997, the actress opted for a black dress. Sarah Jessica Parker herself recalls this dress the following way, “I just was too embarrassed to spend any time looking for a wedding dress. There was a store that I like that I knew, and I just went and got whatever they had hanging.”

Whose wedding dress looks the most spectacular in your opinion?

Angelina Jolie’s stance against societal pressures on women’s bodies is highlighted in her recent public appearance, where she confidently embraced her post-mastectomy body, challenging conventional beauty norms and advocating for body positivity.
