7 Actors Who Got Ferociously Honest About the Roles They Played

Sometimes, we have regrets about the choices we’ve made, things we’ve done, or places we’ve been. But we’re not alone because celebrities are just like us, and they also feel a trace of bitterness toward things they wish they could change. However, life is full of lessons, and most of the time, it’s better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven’t.

1. Rowan Atkinson, Mr. Bean

Rowan Atkinson, who portrays Mr. Bean, says that his role as this character was stressful and exhausting. He claims that “the weight of responsibility is not pleasant,” and he doesn’t really enjoy playing this character. “I look forward to the end of it.”

However, he is making an animated TV show for Mr. Bean, and says that it’s much easier for him to create the character vocally rather than visually.

2. Viola Davis, The Help

Viola Davis says that she regrets starring in The Help because she feels betrayed by the movie. “Not a lot of narratives are also invested in our humanity. The audience at the most can sit and get an academic lesson into how we are.”

Viola also says that she believes when the audiences leave the movie theater, they’d much rather talk about what the movie meant instead of “who we were.”

3. Katherine Heigl, Knocked Up

Katherine Heigl wasn’t happy with the movie, Knocked Up, because she believes it portrayed women as humorless and uptight, while men are viewed as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. “It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it on some days.”

Her character, Allison, is seen as someone who is a mean killjoy, and although she had a nice experience with the movie, it was difficult for her to love it.

4. Harrison Ford, Star Wars

Harrison Ford, as Han Solo, didn’t find any depth in the character and thought of it as “relatively thin.” He says that he would’ve liked to see some kind of complication for his character. “He’s got a good heart, but I think he’s certainly a much less interesting character than Indiana Jones. He’s dumb as a stump.”

He also disliked how long the character lasted, and says that “Han Solo was very good to me at a certain point in my career. But I’m done. I’m done with him.”

5. Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl

Eddie Redmayne says that he didn’t like starring as a transgender woman, Lili Elbe, in The Danish Girl, and says that it was a mistake. “I wouldn’t take it on now. I made that film with the best intentions, but I think it was a mistake.”

There were also some critics who said that an actual transgender person should have taken this role instead. Although he regretted playing Lili, he does feel honored to be part of it and claims he is an “ally of the trans community.”

6. Angelina Jolie, Cyborg 2, Hackers, and Gia

In Cyborg 2, Angelina admitted that she threw up while watching her movie. “I saw it, and I threw up. Just nausea. But the kickboxing was fun. It was the first time I was sent to do kickboxing.”

In Hackers, Angelina said that she fell in love. “That’s where I met Jonny, who is still a great friend. So I think of him when I think of that. Although, I’m sure the movie looks so ancient now, but we had a lot of fun making that.”

In Gia, Angelina claimed that she was so sad for the character. “Playing a real person you identify with and can feel makes you feel a responsibility. Then you live inside her world for a bit, and you just feel so deeply sad that she never really knew love and felt she was of no value other than a thing or a face.”

7. Sandra Bullock, Miss Congeniality 2

Sandra Bullock thinks that there shouldn’t have been a second Miss Congeniality. “It shouldn’t have been done. That one should have remained a one-off.” When she was asked to play in a potential third sequel, she immediately said no.

However, she says that she’s glad about the second movie because of Regina King, “who I just freaking adore.” Sandra also admitted that she is not going to spend time in front of the camera for a while. “I have beautiful babies. I’d rather look at them.”

Is one of these movies your favorite? Who is your most favorite actor/actress?
