10 Celebrities Who Have Moved Away From Social Media and Never Looked Back
When a celebrity publishes a pic showing their private life on social media, it’s often received with an overwhelming number of likes and comments. Think of Cristiano Ronaldo. In 2021, he posted a pic with his wife, Georgina, and he received 32.7 million likes. However, the digital world and its likes and comments do not appeal to all celebrities; on the contrary, some prefer to stay away from it.
1. Harrison Ford
The memorable Indiana Jones interpreter finds that obsessing over the number of “likes” or followers one may have on the Internet is disastrous. Besides, this veteran is not afraid to say that he has never taken a selfie, so we won’t see him sharing photos on social media. Harrison seeks to avoid the culture of what he has called “self-obsession.”
2. Tom Holland
This young star was once an active user of Instagram, a platform through which he kept his fans informed of his personal and professional news. He then used the very same network to let his fans know that he would stay away from the digital world to care for his mental health by avoiding reading what was being said about him. Although his profiles are still active, Tom has refrained from posting any content there.
3. Tina Fey
The reason for Tina’s digital absence is a lack of time. In an interview in which she was asked why she did not have a profile on Instagram, shy said that “there are not enough hours in the day for that” and that in the moments when she is not working, she prefers to spend time with her children.
4. Miles Teller
You won’t find an account under Miles Teller’s name on Instagram or TikTok since, as he put it, he prefers to build his fan base through his films. Indeed, we remember him for Whiplash and Top Gun: Maverick. Still, his dance moves are viral on both platforms because his wife, Keleigh Teller, posts fun choreographies and memorable moments with her husband there.
5. Chris Pine
It is not surprising that this actor stays away from social media, considering that he confessed in Wonder Woman’s interviews that he has an old flip phone, not a smartphone. At the time, he said that he liked to simplify things, that he didn’t like anything that was complicated or to be so connected. Pine did admit to recently buying a modern cell phone. But he doesn’t rule out going back to analog technology.
6. Jay-Z
Although his wife, Beyoncé, is a social media pro, the rapper prefers to stay out of the virtual world. However, in 2021 he made a rare appearance on Instagram, and his new account gained more than one million followers in a matter of hours. A day later, the account disappeared like the wind. Apparently, its sole purpose was to promote a film, and once he did that, he waved goodbye to likes and shares.
7. Margot Robbie
In 2021, the Suicide Squad star closed her accounts with a brief message in which she said goodbye to her followers without further explanation at the time. However, in the past, she had given hints of her preference for a more reserved public profile, referring to Cate Blanchett as one of the celebrities whose example she wanted to follow, for having managed to keep her personal life to herself.
8. Eddie Murphy
Besides staying away from social media, Eddie said he does not even own a PC. And in addition, he does not feel like sharing details of his personal life on digital media. Once, someone even opened a profile in his name on Twitter, and he only found out about it when his daughter sent him a text message alerting him of this account and another similar one they had also created on Instagram.
9. Pamela Anderson
With a sober “This will be my last post on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook,” Pamela Anderson said goodbye to social media in 2021. She also explained to her fans that she felt more inspired by reading and nature.
In 2022, she posted a picture on Instagram to promote the release of a documentary on Netflix about her life. It contained a handwritten message, ending with the phrase: “I am alive to tell the true story.”
10. Matt Damon
Matt Damon may not have any public social media profiles, but that doesn’t mean he’s completely oblivious to them. In an interview, the actor revealed that he has a private Instagram account where he only interacts with his close friends, adding, “I never saw the point. My life is so full, and I’m really connected to who I need to be connected to.”
