About a month ago I rescued a dog from a local agency. Cute little 7-year-old terrier with hardly any manners. My wife tells me that since we got the little guy, I am sleeping much better. (I haven’t slept this well in years). When I wake up in the morning, he usually has weaseled his way into our bed and he is waiting for a tummy scratch. I do that for about 10 minutes before getting up and taking him for a morning walk. That is a good way to wake up!

I am getting more exercise, walking at least an hour a day. And the little guy make me laugh a couple times a day. All in all adopting this guy has been a great way to improve my quality of life. Hopefully he feels the same way.

My son stopped talking at 6. Then his dad adopted a puppy from the shelter. One week later he left and took the dog. “I paid for her.” My son took it hard and started failing his classes. Yesterday I came home and he was gone. I called 911. The officer called me an hour later, crying. “We found him at the shelter. He’d been sitting with the dogs for hours. Ma’am, he wants to adopt one.” I said yes before he finished the sentence. My son never forgave his father. But he hasn’t stopped talking since and is doing very well at school. Until the divorce is over, I told his father he can’t see him. His father’s lawyer called it parental alienation “over a dog.” I will do anything for my child; I’m a mother.

“2 rescues adopted. The most beautiful thing to ever happen to me.”

Lara (middle). Pluto (right) is a rescue dog who had 6 failed adoptions because he was “too big.” He was rescued from NSW Australia, his owners abandoned him at the shelter. We adopted him around Christmas 2023. Penny (left) — we decided to foster her to adopt her and give her a chance. We fell in love and adopted our second rescue in Christmas 2024. These are our three beautiful dogs who have been given another chance at life. They have also given me such a purpose and a sense of happiness. I love them endlessly.
