7 Celebrities Who Refused to Lose Weight for an Acting Job

Nowadays, there are more curvy women in Hollywood than there used to be. But, many people there still consider a size 0 to be superior and even think of adding double or triple zero sizes. Some celebrities, though, love their bodies the way they are and have no intention to change them, even if that means landing fewer movie roles as a consequence.

We at Bright Side applaud these celebs’ decisions and their bravery to stand by their choices, even if this decision hindered their career prospects.

1. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer refused to lose weight for her role as Katniss in The Hunger Games because she believes she, as an actress, has the ability to control the image that young girls are going to be seeing on TV.

“I’m never going to starve myself for a part. I don’t want little girls to be like, ’Oh, I want to look like Katniss, so I’m going to skip dinner.’ I was trying to get my body to look fit and strong — not thin and underfed,” she revealed in a candid interview.

2. Patricia Arquette

Patricia had an argument with one of the producers when she was asked to lose weight during portraying the role of Allison Dubois in the TV series Medium. “I was like, ’This lady is a mother, she’s married, she’s got 3 kids. No,’” she revealed.

3. Kirsten Dunst

Sofia Coppola, Dunst’s director, suggested that she should lose weight for the role in Beguiled. However, she refused, and thankfully, her director was very understanding. “It’s so much harder when you’re 35 and hate working out.”

Kristen also revealed that that wasn’t her only excuse. “I’m eating fried chicken and McDonald’s before work. So I’m like, ’We have no options! I’m sorry I can’t lose weight for this role.’”

4. Margot Robbie

To our surprise, one of the most recognizable actresses, Margot, was asked to lose some weight for her role as Jane in the movie The Legend of Tarzan, which would’ve meant following a strict diet. But Robbie refused, telling the producers that it was a 19th-century film and women didn’t need to be so toned. “If she’s got a bit of weight on her, it’s probably a good thing,” she said.

5. Sienna Miller

When Sienna landed the role of Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl, it was requested of her to lose weight. But, she simply couldn’t commit to the diet because she didn’t have the energy to work on set.

“Edie Sedgwick was skinnier than I was, so director George Hickenlooper wanted me to lose weight. But I can’t work that hard and not eat. He’d come and try to snatch bagels out of my hands,” she revealed.

6. Amber Riley

Whenever the Glee star auditioned, she was always offered roles playing a girl who sits in the corner and eats all day, but she never wanted to play a character who hated herself.

Amber always heard casting directors telling her to lose weight, and the rejections started influencing her self-esteem. That’s when she decided to stop going on auditions. But despite all the obstacles, Riley still managed to rise to the top.

7. Ashley Benson

Even though Ashley is a size 2, during her acting career, she has been told she is too overweight for certain roles. But, she refuses to lose weight because she believes she doesn’t need to.

“It has come up a few times in the last few years, like, ‘You’re too fat for this.’ And I’m just sitting here like, ‘Wait, what? Do you want a skeleton?’”

If you were in these celebrities’ shoes, would you’ve considered losing weight just for the sake of landing a movie role?
