7 Stars Who Are Not Afraid to Accept New Challenges
Stepping out of your comfort zone can be scary, but challenges are part of what makes life fun. Besides, doing something new might lead you to discover new hidden talents and things about yourself that you didn’t know before. Take Lady Gaga for example: she started getting immersed in acting only a few years ago, and now she is looking forward to her new role as Harley Quinn.
Bright Side prepared a list of admirable celebrities who always strive to improve their skills and prove that it can be rewarding to challenge yourself.
1. Tilda Swinton
She has been an actress for nearly 40 years now, and she still continues blowing away the audience’s minds with the different roles she takes. In the horror movie Suspiria, she played 3 roles: Dr. Klemperer, an old psychologist, Madame Blanc, the head of the dance studio, and Helena Markos, an ancient witch. Looks like the movie directors really hit the jackpot with Tilda Swinton, since they did not even have the need to hire additional actors.
2. Uma Thurman
She played one of the best fighters in Kill Bill, and that role did not come easy for her. In fact Uma Thurman had to learn a bunch of new skills, including three styles of kung-fu, two styles of sword fighting, and Japanese. The result was worth it, as she won countless awards for her performance.
3. Emma Stone
Romantic comedy Easy A with Emma Stone as a leading actress was a huge success, so she could have permanently become a romcom actress, but this is not where her career went. Later, she went on to play Spider-Man’s girlfriend Gwen Stacy and also landed the main role in Oscar-winning movie La La Land.
4. Adam Driver
Adam Driver portrayed Kylo Ren in Star Wars, and the portrayal of this character became so important to him that he decided to go out of his way to challenge himself. Notably, he refused to use stunt doubles for his scenes and learned to do all the moves by himself. The stunt coordinator noted that a lot of actors say that they want to do their own stunts, but are incapable of doing so because it is hard to stay in-character. However, Adam Driver worked so hard that he perfected this craft and delivered a great performance.
5. Tom Hanks
Acclaimed actor known for his work in Forrest Gump also has been the voice of Woody in Toy Story since 1995. There are quite a few challenges that come with voicing a character for so long.
Firstly, his voice could’ve become way different during all these years, but because Tom Hanks does not have any bad habits, he says nothing has changed much. Secondly, being a voice actor is not just reading the lines you are given, it is acting the lines multiple times with different emotions to see which makes the final cut. The actor says his diaphragm feels sore after every recording session.
6. Queen Latifah
Queen Latifah has always been a chameleon in the industry, as she was releasing her rap albums and acting at the same time in the ’90s. Recently, she became an executive producer and one of the main stars in the show The Equalizer, and she said that it made her step out of her comfort zone. She notes that the days of challenging herself get exhausting, but in the end, she is satisfied with the result because she believes she will bring top-tier entertainment to the TV audience.
7. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is best known as a singer, but recently, she has been getting a lot into acting. She appeared in a few seasons of the show American Horror Story, and was also the lead actress in A Star Is Born and House of Gucci.
Recently, it was announced that she will play Harley Quinn in the sequel to the Oscar-winning movie Joker. She will star alongside Joaquin Phoenix, and the movie will have a rather surprising format: it will be a musical. The movie is scheduled to come out in 2024, and it will definitely be a new fresh take on the portayal of Joker and Harley Quinn.
