“I Graduated Without Knowing How to Read Vital Signs,” A Student Made Fun of His University, and Now He’s Not Getting His Degree
One of the greatest triumphs in life —one of those that we celebrate the most and fill our families with pride— is graduating. After years of sacrifice, we finally obtain that degree that qualifies us to perform our profession. But what if something goes wrong and all that effort goes to waste?
Like something out of a nightmare, a young Venezuelan man finished his nursing studies and graduated, but his university decided not to give him his degree after a video he uploaded to TikTok. In the video, he and other students of the Universidad Nacional Experimental Politécnica de la Fuerza Armada (UNEFA) confessed that they had learned nothing during their time at the university.
The video shows a group of students lined up in caps and gowns. One by one, they stand in front of the camera and say they do not have the necessary knowledge to practice their profession.
“I graduated without knowing how to give an injection,” “I graduated without knowing how to dose,” “I graduated without knowing how to read vital signs,” and “I graduated without having ever done any nursing interventions,” are some of the phrases said by the students. Jonathan José de Jesús, the young man who uploaded the video to his social networks, confessed that he had graduated “cheating on his exams.”
Immediately, the educational institution sanctioned the 14 students who participated in the controversial video. The recent graduates had to apologize and take a leveling course for a month to prove their ability to practice nursing.
An official release was issued stating that the claims professed by the students in the video were false and that said students had successfully passed the theoretical and practical courses of their training.
The request for leveling was approved by all the students except for Jonathan José de Jesús, who claimed this decision was “unfair.” Later, the university authorities summoned the young man and informed him that his diploma would be annulled due to his “arrogant attitude” in refusing to comply with the sanction.
In an additional video, Jonathan José de Jesús attempted to justify himself by showcasing his outstanding grades throughout his career and assuring that he had fully complied with the requirements to graduate as a nurse. Despite this, the university refused to return his degree.
