“Now I Have to Live to 107”, Cameron Diaz Reveals How to Embrace Motherhood Later in Life
According to studies, older mothers tend to experience a boost in happiness following childbirth, while the effect is only temporary for younger mothers. Late motherhood offers notable advantages, as demonstrated by Cameron Diaz, making her an excellent example. Her personal journey can potentially sway individuals who have uncertainties about getting pregnant after age 40.
It was a long journey to motherhood, but the miracle happened.
In December 2019, Cameron Diaz and her husband, Benji Madden, became parents for the first time in their lives. This news blew up on the internet and became a popular topic of conversation regarding late motherhood. Diaz gave new hope to women who gave up on trying to have a baby.
Although the actress tries to keep the way her parents private, her close circle shared that the couple tried for years to conceive before finally having a daughter named Raddix. “They went through so much to get to this point,” a source said.
Diaz reveals that she dedicated much of her life to the public. Now, she believes it’s acceptable to prioritize self-care and decide how she wants to reintegrate into society. She is content, fortunate, and appreciative to embark on a new decade with a child, with one of her primary objectives being to protect her little one.
There are no longer pictures of dogs on her phone.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Diaz confessed that spending time with her daughter was a form of heaven. And we believe her because she looks so fresh and peaceful. Diaz tries to enjoy each moment because “every single day, there are leaps and bounds, and these things that happen — she’s not the same baby she was yesterday.”
She explained that such things never happened to her and Benji: “It’s so gratifying to actually get to see that growth and to be a part of it and to help let her be her, and it’s just amazing.”
Diaz playfully jokes about how her phone used to be filled with pictures of her dogs and their bathroom activities (she has four). However, things have changed now that the family has “Baby Shark” and “Elmo’s Song” playing constantly, and everyone in the household enjoys it. Diaz takes pride in being a mom and enjoys witnessing her daughter’s boundless love for her daddy.
There’s still the pressure of being a mom at 47.
In an interview with Naomi Campbell, Diaz shared how she liked to find balance in life. She accepts that many people become parents the other way and says, “They get married [and] have a family in their youth. I’m kind of doing it in the second half of my life.” And she loves her life to be private, finally. But still, there is some pressure, even in late motherhood. Diaz said ironically, “I have to be, like, 107. So, no pressure!”
Despite this, Diaz is sure this is her “sweet spot” and the happiest time of her life. Her previous traveling and working experiences can’t be compared to this new phase. “Having a family when you’re young, it’s like anything when you’re young, you do it. When you’re my age, and you decide to do it, it’s a real choice. You really have to work hard for it.”
During the interview, Campbell noticed that Diaz looked more beautiful and happy nowadays than before, and the balance had finally been reached.
