10 Rules That Rich People Follow

They say “Fake it till you make it.” This motto can be applied to so many different things in our lives, whether it’s building self-confidence, creating a positive mindset, or mastering different skills. It can also be applied to your lifestyle.

With this article, Bright Side wants you to try to “fake it” and implement some of these habits into your life and see what happens.

10. Talk less, listen more.

This rule is important even if you’re not conversing with a friend. Listening to people’s needs is a crucial point in business, too. Steve Jobs once said, “It doesn’t make sense to hire smart people and then tell them what to do, we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.” People will always say what they don’t like and what they would like to change. We all know that communication is the key, and listening is a part of it.

9. Get out of the office.

Try to move some of your everyday tasks out of the office, like talking to customers or meeting with clients and experts. These are great ways to change your perspective and expand your knowledge and network. You can’t learn everything by sitting at a desk, but you can learn more by leaving it occasionally.

8. Choose friends wisely.

It can be hard, but if you want to be successful, you need to re-evaluate the friendships that you have. We take a lot from people close to us, so ask yourself if they are helping you to be your best self or if they’re dragging you down. If your goal is to become wealthy, start making friends with people who can help you with that.

7. Know when to stop.

Pushing yourself to the limit, working late nights or bringing work home is not something that rich people do. They know better. It is very important to separate your work from your home and personal life. If you don’t want to end up exhausted, inefficient or burned out then leave work at work.

6. Never stop learning.

The world we live in changes all the time. New products, innovations, and technology appear almost every day. And if you want to stay on top of things and be successful, you need to educate yourself about everything that is going on constantly. Books, lectures, videos, and podcasts can help you stay up-to-date.

5. Have a source of passive income.

Rich people don’t spend all of their money on designer clothes, expensive gadgets, jewelry, or cars, as a lot of people think. They don’t waste their money. They make their money work for them. An income based on a side business, investments, dividends, or real estate can be a common source of additional money among the rich. Even having money in a high-yield savings account can make you richer without your immediate participation.

4. Value your time.

Have you ever thought about how much time you actually waste scrolling through social media or binge-watching videos of cute animals? Try cutting down the time you spend in front of a screen and use it to do something that you’ll be thankful for in the future, whether that’s personal development, your health, volunteering or networking.

3. Read every day.

According to Tom Corley’s research described in his book Rich Habits: The Daily Success Habits Of Wealthy Individuals, wealthy people choose reading over TV. In fact, 88% of wealthy people read for at least 30 minutes a day. Anything from self-improvement literature to news can help increase your knowledge, which will make you more open-minded and will help you at work.

2. Put yourself first.

It is really important to take care of your body and mind and to dedicate time to it every single day. Lifting weights or playing tennis, spending time with your loved ones or being alone, taking a bath or meditating; do whatever makes you feel great, recharges, and relaxes you. All of that together with regular health check-ups and a nutritious diet can help you to prevent burning out.

1. Keep a planner.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a notebook or an app on your phone. Write down to-do lists, short-term and long-term goals, and even dreams. Write down everything that happens, like your daily thoughts and all the ups and downs of your day. Clear out your head so that you have more room for greater thoughts and ideas and you don’t forget anything important.
