19 Movie Wedding Dresses That Became Legendary

year ago

When we watch a romantic movie or series, we want the main heroes to be together, and their wedding is like the cherry on top. There are also movies where a wedding is just the beginning of the story, and the plot twists begin only afterward. Whatever the case, it’s always exciting to watch a movie wedding, especially if the costume designers did a great job.

At Bright Side, we can’t stop admiring movie brides. Join us to take a look at their wedding dresses.

Carrie, Sex and the City (2008)

When preparing for her wedding, Carrie tries on different designer dresses and eventually chooses a gown by Vivienne Westwood. We saw many wedding dresses in the series and movies of this franchise, but this one became everyone’s favorite.

By the way, after the movie was released in 2008, the dress was recreated and sold out right after the premier.

Adaline, The Age of Adaline (2015)

Adaline’s wedding dress reflects all fashion trends of the 1930s: a satin sheath dress in a cream color, decorated with lace, complemented with thin gloves and a voluminous veil.

Victoria, The Young Victoria (2008)

The gorgeous wedding dress of Queen Victoria was recreated by the movie costume designers with the maximum precision. This was one of the reasons the movie received the 2010 Academy Award for Costume Design.

Maggie, Runaway Bride (1999)

Julia Roberts’ character tries on different wedding dresses throughout the entire movie, but the most memorable dress is the one she puts on for her last wedding. This classic off-the-shoulder cloud-like gown was created by designer Amsale Aberra.

Jo, Funny Face (1957)

This frilly tea-length wedding dress by Hubert de Givenchy underlined Audrey Hepburn’s slim figure and made it airy. It’s the best gown for those brides who want to enjoy dancing at their wedding.

Katniss, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)

This wedding dress, with numerous layers of chiffon ruffles and a futuristic corset, was created by Indonesian designer Tex Saverio. Even though Katniss doesn’t wear it to walk down the aisle, it’s impossible to forget.

Blair, Gossip Girl (2007–2012)

The costume designer of the series chose this blue dress that the prom queen wore at her wedding from the couture collection of designer Elie Saab. “It needed to feel like old world glamour meets contemporary high fashion,” the costume designer said.

Mili, Wild Angel (1998–1999)

Mili decided to walk down the aisle wearing a dress that fully corresponded to her rebellious spirit. The skirt, which is short in the front and long in the back, looks very romantic and also lets you move as much as you want. And as we know, she ran off to play football while still in her wedding dress.

Padmé, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002)

Padmé’s wedding gown consisted of an underdress, an overcoat, and a veil. It was adorned with lace and embellished with beaded seed pearls, making it look beautiful and expensive. Costume designer Trisha Biggar revealed that its creation took hours of painstaking work.

Mia, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004)

A royal wedding dress should have a lace top and long train. This description fits Mia’s wedding gown, which was designed by Gary Jones, to a tee.

Rose, Downton Abbey (2010–2015)

Lady Rose’s wedding gown was found in a vintage shop. It was in immaculate condition. This dress, featuring dainty gold sequins and embellishments, was one of the most memorable wardrobe moments in Downton Abbey.

Tracy, High Society (1956)

Grace Kelly’s character wore a chiffon dress with a skirt in the New Look style and floral embroidery while walking down the aisle. A wide-brimmed hat and short gloves completed her look.

Anastasia, Fifty Shades Freed (2018)

This off-the-shoulder dress is adorned with lace and has a long train. It was designed by Monique Lhuillier. “I wanted to create something traditional but with a modern twist, and really make sure it encompassed Anastasia’s personality,” Monique said.

Phoebe, Charmed (1998–2006)

Throughout the series, Phoebe and her sisters try on different wedding dresses. But this tight-fitting dress that has a hem and corset adorned with beads deserves some special attention.

Schatze, How to Marry a Millionaire (1953)

A gold digger, played by Lauren Bacall, was dressed in a mermaid wedding dress adorned with lace. A hat and strings of pearls on her neck and wrist completed the look.

Mary, About Time (2013)

Rachel McAdams’ character proved that wearing a red dress at a wedding is beautiful. This kind of a gown can be quite simple without abundant embellishments, but the bride won’t remain unnoticed in it thanks to its color.

Angélique, Angélique, Marquise des Anges (1964)

They say Coco Chanel attended the movie premier and gave it a standing ovation after the closing credits. We think that the fashion designer also admired Angélique’s costumes, including her gorgeous off-the-shoulder wedding dress with a puffy skirt.

Scarlett, Gone with the Wind (1939)

The movie costume designer deliberately chose a dress in an old style for Scarlett, despite the fact that the character is fond of fashion. According to the novel, Scarlett wears her mother’s dress at the wedding.

Liv, Bride Wars (2009)

Designer Vera Wang knows a thing about wedding dresses. She chose a puffy dress with a heart-shaped neckline for Kate Hudson’s character. But its main feature is a purple belt with a bow, which makes the look even more refined.
