10+ People Who Didn’t Expect Life to Bring Them This Much of Emotions

There are situations when emotions can hit us hard. The heroes of this article unexpectedly found themselves on emotional swings from joy to indignation, or from calmness to delight.

• The boss told the “good news” — I didn’t pass my probationary period (I’m an accountant). Okay, I can pack my bags and look for another job. But no, the boss asked me to stay.
  When asked, “Why?” he said, “We’re drowning in work, and we really need another accountant!” I asked, “So, I am not right for you, and yet you need me?” The boss, “Yes! We’ll pay you for all the days you’ve worked.”

• The other day we were having a family dinner, and my daughter said she wanted to get a nose piercing. My mother-in-law immediately threw a tantrum, “Are you out of your mind? It’s a disgrace to the whole family!”
  I’m shocked: what disgrace? The girl wants to express herself, she is 16, let her try! And the mother-in-law won’t stop, “It’s because of your mother, she’s a bad example to you!” What is this nonsense?
  I tell her, “What century do you live in?” And she says, “It’s your fault you have a daughter like that!” I can’t believe it. I thought we had a normal family, and now this comes out. How am I supposed to communicate with her after that? © Mamdarinka / VK
• My husband and I received a wedding invitation. I was excited, because I love weddings! But this invitation had a note attached to it. I’m reading it and losing it — while my husband was invited, I’d be in another room helping to babysit all the children. I’d still need to dress for a wedding in case I wind up in any photos.
  Then there was a link for their gift registry. And the meals for my husband and myself would be $100.00 each, and we have a link to pay. I should say here that the mother of the bride is a childhood friend of mine.
  I called her, it turned out that many guests refused invitations. I told her she was wrong, and my friend got angry. My husband and I ended up not going to the wedding. A few friends rented a house 20 minutes from the wedding venue, and everyone who didn’t want to pay for dinner went there, including my husband and me.
  We danced and had a great time. There were about 80 people in total. The bridesmaids who refused to come to the wedding posted a bunch of pictures from our evening.
  My ex-friend saw the photos and called me with reproaches. They spent money on food and drinks, and because of my behavior many guests didn’t come. But it wasn’t my idea to make the alternative party, just many of the invitees were outraged with their demands. © EdenCapwell / Reddit

• I met a guy on a dating site, the photo only showed his face. We agreed to meet in the city and have dinner somewhere. I came to the date wearing a red silk dress, high heels, makeup, had my hair styled. And he showed up in a tracksuit with stripes, lime-green sneakers, and a cap — and took me to a shawarma joint for dinner!
  I thought it was an epic fail. But no, I had never eaten such delicious shawarma, and I had never spent time with such an interesting and funny guy. He was caring, polite, and funny. When I got cold, he gave me his jacket. I fell in love.
  The next day, he texted me and asked me out to dinner. I happily accepted. The guy came in a white T-shirt and blue jeans, and white sneakers. Very classy. He took me out to eat at an Italian restaurant, apologized for his appearance yesterday, though I hadn’t showed that I didn’t like anything.
  It turned out that yesterday’s shawarma shop and 2 others belonged to him. He plays sports and travels a lot. I am madly grateful to my parents for teaching me to pay attention to people’s behavior and character rather than to their appearance! © Caramel / VK
• It’s night, I’m sitting in bed with my laptop. I feel something cautiously walking on my feet, like a small animal. In a completely empty room. No animals in the house. It’s walking all over me.

• The wife of an employee came to us and started asking why her husband worked late hours all the time. The boss denied everything, and the wife got pale. Then he called the employee, told him everything. And the guy laughs.
  His wife is a workaholic, comes in late. Not so long ago she snapped at him, saying, he had to do chores — he had more free time. But he was lazy to do them. So, he made up these late hours. She comes at night — the house is a mess, dinner is not ready, and the husband’s excuse is that he just came from work about 15 minutes ago, very tired.
  The boss said, “Why are you laughing? You got busted, didn’t you?” He laughed nervously, “I’ve just come from my wife’s work, I asked the same question there about her. And she doesn’t work late hours or during weekends...” © Stories / VK
• A woman comes to the pharmacy yesterday, interested in 2 ointments. I told her about one and the other. While the dialogue was going on, the queue gathered. And the woman keeps asking questions.
  Then she seems to decide on one ointment and asks, “Do you think it will help me?” I, of course, asked who prescribed her this ointment and for what exactly, because there are a lot of indications in it.

• This is just horrible. My hair stylist was out of town today, so I made an appointment for coloring with other guys. Tomorrow was a friend’s wedding, and my roots have grown out. I came to the salon, everything looked nice. We got down to business.
  3 and a half hours later, I come out of there with red hair... And I had a black one! The girl mixed up the dyes, instead of toning and maintaining the color, she bleached me.
  I will never go to other hair stylists again! My hair was burned, I didn’t go to the wedding, my hair stylist will come only in a month. It’s a failure! © Caramel / VK

• I work in a jewelry shop. We offer coffee to everyone who makes a purchase for a large sum — it’s a management decision.
  And here came a man, a regular customer, we all know him well. He spent a considerable amount of money. I pack him everything in a gift box and ask, “Would you like a coffee? What kind do you like?”

• Once, my parents and I went to buy some clothes. It was a weekend, a crowd of people. I was about 4 years old, my dad carried me on his shoulders.
  After a while, my dad asked fearfully, “Where’s the child?” You know how people lose their glasses on their foreheads, that’s how my dad forgot about me on his shoulders.
