16 People Who Lucked Out When They Needed It the Most

Perhaps everyone has seen a miracle at least once in a lifetime. It can be a small happy accident or great luck — it depends on how lucky you are. The main thing is to be able to notice this cool event, because life becomes so much brighter with it.

  • I was 4, my mom was walking me to daycare. We were late and in a hurry. And then I saw a beautiful piece of paper lying in a puddle. I asked my mom to stop to pick it up, but she didn’t even look at the puddle — she had no time.
In the evening, my dad picked me up from daycare. We walked past that puddle, and the paper was still there. I ran to get it happily, and it was $100! In 1994, it was big money! © Mum Darling / ADME
  • I was a terrible student, skipped a lot of classes. It was my graduation year, all that was left was to pass final exams. I’m standing at the bus stop with the girls from the group. They are cramming some “very difficult” ticket, and I don’t cram anything — I didn’t even know tickets. The girls were shocked, “Why are you even going to the exam if you’re not prepared?” And they keep repeating the same ticket to each other.
In the end, I went into the class with the first 5 students, took the ticket, read the questions and realized that it was the same “very difficult” ticket that the girls had been repeating to each other all the way through. And immediately, without preparation, I went to answer it. The teacher was shocked, “How so? You don’t attend classes, but you answer so well!” In the end, she gave me a B, and I didn’t even dream of a C! © Mum Katya /Dzen
  • My friends bought a tour to Turkey: 4 stars, second line (about half a mile to the sea). When they arrived, it turned out that due to the mistake of the Turkish operator, their hotel rooms were sold twice. According to the contract, they were supposed to be given a hotel not lower than the one they paid for. But it was a high season, and it wasn’t clear what they would get eventually.
They made a scandal on emotions, called the tour firm they bought the tour from, even though those had nothing to do with it. So, they were taken to another hotel, and there they closed their mouths and prayed that the Turks didn’t change their minds, because it was a 5-star hotel on the beach and very cool. The tour to this hotel cost twice as much as they paid. This luck happens only once in a lifetime! © Vladislav K. / Dzen
  • I recently got really lucky. A retired neighbor sold her old house and took out all the “junk” from the attic, where she kept the toys of her now 40-year-old son. And she said, “Take a look. Maybe you’ll need something for your daughter.” We came with my 2-year-old, and there is no junk, but real treasures: old metal cars, construction toys, a large iron dump truck. And all in good condition. Of course, we got it all and carried in 3 bags.
Last weekend I came to visit my parents, and my neighbor called me again and showed a lot of other bags. And in them there were table hockey, various puzzles, badges, naval combat, table basketball, some game with rings and pegs, Christmas toys and a small Christmas tree, garlands, a huge doll, and even railway. Holy hedgehogs, I can’t even describe them all! Anyway, we’re now playing these games with my daughter. She is really delighted, as I am. © Kid.Ding / Pikabu
  • It was 2008. My wife and I just had a wedding in our small town, and in the evening we flew to the capital. After the wedding and banquet, we decided not to change clothes and fly straight in wedding dresses.
The tickets were in economy class. But when we came to the check-in desk and the staff found out that we had just married, we were given a business lounge. We were pleasantly surprised by this attitude. After everyone was invited to board the plane, we also went to take our seats in the tail.
As soon as we were seated, the captain congratulated us on behalf of the airline over the loudspeaker, and as a gift offered us to go to the business class cabin. We went there under the applause of passengers and flight attendants. It was so pleasant that words cannot describe it! © perevetich1 / Pikabu
  • I was holding the projective geometry exam to the dean of our faculty. But I couldn’t draw anything properly — my friend did all the work for me. I was struggling, and then the dean sat down next to me:
    — Young man, how long are you going to do this?
    — You know, I can tell you how to draw this and why. But I can’t do it: my hands are golden, but they grow from the wrong place.
He grinned, “Well, tell me.” I told him.
    — Well, everything is right. But since you didn’t draw it, I give you a B.
    And then I got cheeky:
    — It’s my birthday today!
    — Really?
    — Honestly!
    — An A, then. But only because it’s my birthday too. Go celebrate! © Freixotrix / Dzen
  • I lived alone with my daughter. I worked in daycare as a nanny, and my salary was barely enough to pay for the flat and food. I had no winter shoes. I was freezing, and dreamed of warm boots.
And one morning I came out of the house and saw a miracle: there were women’s boots on the bench near the entrance! Made from suede and pretty! They were not new, but in good condition.
Now I am already on my feet and won’t wear other people’s things, even if they’re new. But then, 10 years ago, I didn’t have a choice. I wore these boots all winter. At work, they even asked me where I got such cool boots. © LuckyZami / Pikabu
  • On a honeymoon cruise with my wife. I bought a watch from the ship’s jewelry store, and on the day I bought it, the store was having a giveaway for customers who bought a watch that day alone. Essentially, the store would refund the cost of the watch, and you got to keep the watch for free.
We hung around for the drawing, and I won the giveaway. I got around $100 back. Immediately afterwards, we went to play the ship’s nightly bingo game. I then won the jackpot game, which was $600! That extra $700 paid for some nice dinners and extra excursions for the rest of the cruise. © the_middle_way / Reddit
  • Found £160 in cash on a river bank, while I was discussing how I was too broke to afford a festival ticket with my girlfriend at the time. No idea how it got on the river bank, far away from the town. River bank is the wrong kind of bank to deposit your cash. © Turbulent-T / Reddit
  • I was in my fourth year of university, and on weekends I went to visit my parents in the neighboring town. The bus ran twice a day: at 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. I always returned on the evening bus, so that I could stay at home longer on Sunday.
So one day I bought my return ticket for Sunday evening in advance, but on Saturday I had a fight with my friends and left on the afternoon bus. My mom persuaded me to stay, but I refused.
And on Monday morning my classmate called me and told me that last night the bus I was supposed to take crushed into a truck. If I hadn’t changed my ticket, I wouldn’t be writing all this now. I traveled on this very bus for 3.5 years! © Unknown author / Pikabu
  • I never won anything. But then, shortly before the New Year, I bought a year’s membership to a fitness club. They told me that there would be a prize draw among clients, but you had to be present at the event to win the prize. I wrote my name on the receipt and hoped for luck.
So my wife and I went to the drawing. A lot of people, songs, dances, contests. The raffle started. At first, they raffled some trifles, but the main prize was a trip for 2 to Turkey to a good hotel for a week.
They took out the first receipt, called the name — the person was not there. The second receipt — the same thing. The third receipt, and they called my name! And I didn’t even want to come, I thought it was all rubbish. © Igor Sidorenko / Dzen
  • My teacher told me a story about her daughter. Her daughter had an exam. I don’t remember the reason why she wasn’t prepared, but she had learned only the first ticket. But she went anyway.
The teacher asked, “Well, who’s first?” And she had nothing to lose, only time. So she went first. And the teacher told her, “Since you are the first, you will not pull the ticket — answer the first ticket.” Well, she got an A. © Alla Andreeva / Dzen
  • We were buying an apartment. The price was a bit high, but the owner promised to leave all the furniture. We closed the deal, but when we arrived, the apartment had bare walls and an old wardrobe with junk. We were shocked, we called the owner, and she said, “Oh, I don’t know what I promised!”
My husband kicked the wardrobe and a small metal tube rolled out from under it. We opened it and were stunned: there was $3,000 in $100 notes. It was as if the Universe had reimbursed us the difference we had overpaid for the apartment. We used that money to buy new furniture.
  • I was nagging my husband, “I want a collection of succulents!” I really like them. They are sold in floral shops, but they’re not very good. My husband went to the grocery shop for bread and brought back 3 pots of good plants: Haworthia, Echeveria.
Someone left them on the window sill, to be thrown away. And our staircase is unheated, the plants would have died. I was so happy! I planted them in beautiful pots and gave some to my daughter-in-law — she is also a fan. © Irina Timonina / Dzen
  • My mother gave me a very nice necklace. One morning I went to scratch my neck and I didn’t feel it. I guess I didn’t put the latch on properly, and it fell off, so I got super bummed out because it was really nice.
A few hours later, I found it in my shoe. It fell down my shirt, down my pants (with a belt), and into my left shoe, which had been tightly laced. © Rough_Cut / Reddit
  • New Year’s Day! There was a blizzard and the flight was accidentally canceled and re-opened with a delay. My sister and I were the only 2 on the flight, it was pretty cool. Extra snacks, upgraded to first class seats. © KittyLilith17 / Reddit
