The celebrity couple openly expressed their desire to add another child to their blended family. And in vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the fertility processes they turned to. But Kourtney Kardashian Barker, 44, and Travis Barker, 47, said they are done trying through IVF. Read on to find out why they prefer to leave their family plans to the hands of fate and the natural route.

Kardashian and Barker share five children, but they still don’t have a baby of their own.

The reality star has three kids from her previous relationship with Scott Disick — 13-year-old Mason, 10-year-old Penelope, and 8-year-old Reign.

Meanwhile, the Blink-182 drummer has two children with Shanna Moakler — 19-year-old Landon and 17-year-old Alabama.

The two got married in 2022, and even if they already have quite a big blended family, Kardashian and Barker still dream of having a child together.

“(They) have wanted to have a baby since day one, and she got pregnant so easily with the other three,” a source revealed in one interview. “But since they had it in their mind that the most romantic thing they can do is have a baby together, even when it got tough, they never wavered.”

And so they embarked on an IVF fertility journey.

In her reality show, Kardashian shared that their expectations for the IVF procedure did not go as well as they had hoped. Most of the seven eggs retrieved from her did not survive, and none made it to an embryo.

She also said the treatment took a toll on her body and caused weight gain and menopause-like symptoms. She also described feeling “a little bit off, not like myself, super moody and hormonal. I’m a lunatic half the time.” But thankfully, Barker stood by her side and always made her feel beautiful throughout the whole ordeal.

Kardashian opened up about feeling the pressure to freeze her eggs.

The celebrity mom said she was 38 or 39 — before she started dating Barker — when she felt pushed to do IVF.

“If you even look anything up online about things you can do to help get pregnant... it says on there, like, ‘If you’re over 40’ — or it might even say something younger — it says, ‘Go right away.’”

But now, the couple decided to conceive without the help of science.

Kardashian shared her perspective on the fertility treatment she went through. “The freezing of the eggs isn’t guaranteed.”

“I think that that’s a misunderstanding. People do it thinking it’s like a safety net and it’s not,” she added.

She and her husband now prefer to leave it up to fate to see what’s in store for them. “We are officially done with IVF.”

And whether or not they are blessed with a new bundle of joy, Kardashian says there are other things to focus on. “Whatever’s meant to be. Being happy is most important, and being a good parent to my kids.”

While many successful celebrity IVF and surrogacy stories exist, Kardashian is not alone in unproductive attempts at a science-supported pregnancy. Jennifer Aniston also opened up about her challenging IVF journey and how she eventually became at peace with not having her own children.

I feel very sad for them both, but especially for Kourtney because I went almost 4 whole years between my first born and my second child. I actually had a little over a couple years before I became pregnant with my first child. I had a few things that lowered my chances of getting pregnant that I didn't know about until after my first but I didn't choose to have any intervention or procedures to help me out. Things finally happened naturally. Hopefully, it will happen for them too. If not, I'm very sorry for them. I wish them success in all their hearts desires and happiness on their journey together.
