She has created a real buzz online with her work.
The artist’s real name is He Yuhong, but she’s become popular under the pseudonym Yuyamika, which she uses on her social networks. She first became noticed when she uploaded her facial transformation video to social media a few years ago.
The video has received tens of millions of views and has been viewed over 250,000 times on Instagram. The peculiar thing about it was that the artist tried to recreate the image from an oil painting.
She comments on her daring work, saying, “Makeup artists concentrate mostly on trying to recreate the looks of celebrities. Few have developed the idea of transforming into figures from oil paintings. I did it.”
She thinks makeup has a higher artistic value than just making someone look more beautiful.
While the primary function of makeup is to make a person look more beautiful, this artist thinks it also has a higher artistic value. She had already tried recreating the looks of many famous people, like the late legendary actress Audrey Hepburn and the Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett.
The artist thoroughly films the entire artistic process and uploads the videos to teach her fans some extraordinary makeup skills.
The artist’s fans are people who inspire her.
Fans sometimes set some challenging tasks for the young artist.
“A netizen commented that I looked like Mona Lisa after I shaved off my eyebrows and tasked me with a makeup challenge,” recalled Yuyamika. She spent several days examining the tiniest features of Mona Lisa’s face before starting the project.
“The biggest challenge came from her mysterious smile. It’s very difficult to imitate,” she said, but the project turned out to be a huge success.
Her work is not easy and requires a lot of patience.
Yuyamika has an army of devoted fans at home and abroad, and they can’t wait for her to upload some new makeup tutorials. “I’m happy to see that people like my recreation work. I’m greatly encouraged by their positive feedback,” says the artist.
Surprisingly, it’s not just women who are interested in her makeup art. “Some of her fans have never made up their faces before, while others are men, but they all show great interest in my videos. They keep me moving forward,” confessed the artist.
It usually takes 4 to 6 hours to recreate one person’s face using makeup. But the artist is genuinely unstoppable, and she continues creating true masterpieces.
So far, she has replicated the figure in Lady With an Ermine, one of Leonardo da Vinci’s great works, and recreated another famous painting, Girl With a Pearl Earring.
“Once you see your face as a blank sheet of paper, the opportunities are endless,” she says.
